US Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is warning that Congress must commit billions more in funding for air traffic control modernization, beyond the $12.5 billion already approved in 2025, before work to overhaul the ATC system can even begin. Speaking at a press event ahead of the Thanksgiving travel rush at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on November 25, 2025, Duffy said the upcoming holiday surge highlights the need to move forward with a full rebuild of the national ATC network. He noted that while Newark experienced two major ATC outages in the spring of 2025, when radar systems went offline for about 90 seconds during each incident,…
We know that Air India is currently undergoing a major transformation, after being privatized. This includes ordering hundreds of new planes, and trying to greatly improve the passenger experience. As you might expect, this is no small project, both given the state of Air India’s legacy fleet, plus the general industry constraints (delays with aircraft deliveries, new seats, etc.). As I recently covered, nearly four years after being privatized, Air India has finally started the process of reconfiguring its long haul jets with new interiors. However, it’s not necessarily the product you might have expected. Air India selects Adient Ascent…
Hello from the United States, as I just wrapped up my review trip to Bangkok! For the final international segment of my trip, I flew SWISS’ Airbus A350-900 business class on the 7hr55min flight from Zurich (ZRH) to Boston (BOS). This was perhaps the flight of this trip I was most looking forward to, given that it was operated by SWISS’ brand new A350, which is the first plane to have the carrier’s new SWISS Senses cabin concept. The plane just entered transatlantic service, so I was lucky to be on one of the first flights, as I found availability with…
Delta Air Lines has now rolled out its new ‘Comfort Basic’ fare type, a lower-tier option to fly on the airline’s extra-legroom seats in its economy Main Cabin. The fare offers the onboard perks of a Delta Comfort seat at a lower price point, in exchange for certain restrictions. First announced at the beginning of this month, Delta’s new fare type is already on sale in select domestic markets as of November 19. The carrier has also suggested it will offer similar ‘Basic’ options in other cabins moving forward. So what can passengers expect when buying a Comfort Basic fare?…
The U.S. Air Force disclosed for the first time that the F-35s were tasked with the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses, and were the first in and last out of Iran during the strike mission. In a press release published on Nov. 25, 2025, the U.S. Air Force has disclosed new details about the role of the F-35 Lightning II during Operation Midnight Hammer, the strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, earlier this year. The details were released as the Airmen from the active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings completed their deployment to the Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of…
The United States military typically flies a mix of specially designed aircraft and models derived from civilian aircraft. You have, for instance, the Boeing P-8 Poseidon, a naval reconnaissance aircraft derived from the Boeing 737-800 airliner, and then the Boeing C-17, a freighter aircraft that was a clean-sheet design. Naturally, the VIP transport aircraft used by the United States Air Force are based on Boeing airliners, such as the C-40 (based on the 737-700), the C-32 (based on the 757-200), and, of course, the famous VC-25 (based on the 747). These are all prior-generation aircraft that are no longer in…

Smoke Began Entering The Cockpit During The Landing Flare, And Then The Pilot Noticed Flames On The Right Side Of The Airplane Analysis: The pilot reported that about 30 minutes into the local flight, he heard some crackling in the radio reception and then the cockpit flight displays went blank. The engine stumbled and lost power completely. The pilot was operating the airplane in the airport traffic pattern at that time and decided to secure the engine to set up for a forced landing to the runway.
