Iberia has just announced its newest transatlantic route. While it wasn’t necessarily one we were told to expect, I also don’t think it’s terribly surprising. The flight will operate daily with the following schedule:IB327 Madrid to Newark departing 7:35PM arriving 10:25PMIB328 Newark to Madrid departing 11:55PM arriving 1:20PM (+1 day) Iberia will fly from Madrid to NewarkThe 3,606-mile flight is blocked at 8hr50min westbound and 8hr25min eastbound. Iberia will use an Airbus A321XLR for the…
Spanish flag carrier Iberia will be doubling down on Airbus A321XLR services across the Atlantic, with the airline preparing to add a new daily route from its hub at Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) starting on March 29, 2026. This is set to complement a pair of daily Madrid to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) services, which ultimately turn the New York area into a market that will be served three times per day by the carrier. Summer capacity will be lifted to 350,000 seats, more than 42% more than was offered by the…

Airlines operate on very small profit margins and are therefore constantly looking for ways to cut costs. New and advanced engine technology, specialty loyalty programs, composite airframe materials, are some examples of areas where airlines have tried to improve the bottom line. But one piece of wing technology, easily overlooked by the casual traveler, has been a point of intense interest for airlines as they look to improve efficiency. The wing of an airplane is the most important part of the design. And for the most part, large aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus have recently focused innovation efforts on…
In June 2025, public charter air carrier JSX revealed plans to introduce turboprop service, with 30-seat all-business class aircraft. This is an interesting development for the carrier, and a logical evolution. There’s now an update, as these flights will be launching in the coming weeks, so we have more of a sense of what to expect. JSX will fly at least four ATR 42-600 turbopropsFor context, JSX is an air carrier that operates point-to-point flights within the United States with 30-seat regional jets. The carrier operates flights primarily out of private terminals, and markets a “business class” experience. Many people…
Estimating the number of commercial airliners a company has produced is complex and complicated. The industry is characterized by mergers and changing environments (like Airbus buying the CSeries). For example, Douglas and then McDonnell Douglas was one of the greatest aircraft makers, but it was merged with Boeing in 1997, and Boeing now includes the production of its former rival in its own. Airbus is younger than Boeing, but it also did not emerge from a vacuum, as it is the result of many mergers. This list may count aircraft produced twice, as it lists both Boeing’s claimed numbers (including…
Two ultra-rare Russian aircraft have been destroyed in an attack on aircraft manufacturer Beriev’s plant near the Black Sea city of Taganrog. Alongside damage to Beriev’s facility itself, which is a repair facility for Russia’s Beriev A-50 ‘Mainstay’ airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft fleet, satellite imagery depicts the destruction of two Ilyushin Il-76 type aircraft. Upon closer inspection, cross-referencing with historical imagery from both the ground and air, these aircraft were specifically a Beriev A-60 and, reportedly, an A-100LL. Official Ukrainian sources state that the strike involved cruise missiles and one-way attack drones. The Beriev A-60 concept was roughly analogous…
I recently covered how Etihad Guest has updated its award change and cancellation policy yet again. The program has the most punitive award ticket cancellation policy of any airline in the industry, and within 72 hours of departure, no changes or cancellations are possible to award tickets. As it turns out, the policy is actually even worse than I fully realized, and reader Ryan shared his experience with me. The confusing way Etihad Guest allows award cancellations I won’t recap Etihad Guest’s entire award ticket cancellation policy, so see my previous post for those details. So let me explain what…
There has been an explosion in the number of airlines offering fast WiFi and in-seat charging for mobile devices. The temptation, therefore, is to shift away from inflight entertainment (IFE) systems and expect passengers to create their own fun. However, some airlines are resisting this momentum to keep providing leading IFE that ensures passengers have an enjoyable inflight experience. One such airline is Cathay Pacific. The carrier has recently been recognized for its efforts with a first-place in the Skytrax award for The World’s Best In-Flight Entertainment 2025. Discover below more about the award and the systems and partnerships that…
