Remote Communications Outlet (RCO) An unmanned communications facility remotely controlled by air traffic personnel. RCOs serve FSSs. Remote Transmitter/Receivers (RTR) serve terminal ATC facilities. An RCO or RTR may be UHF or VHF and will extend the communication range of the air traffic facility. There are several classes of RCOs and RTRs. The class is determined by the number of transmitters or receivers. Classes A through G are used primarily for air/ground purposes. RCO and RTR class O facilities are nonprotected outlets subject to undetected and prolonged outages…
Marhaba, it’s the Arabic word for “Welcome”. It’s also the name for dnata’s Meet & Greet service at Dubai International Airport and other airports around the world. During my trip to Dubai for the 2025 Dubai Airshow, I decided to book the service to meet me upon arrival in Dubai. At Dubai International Airport, Marhaba offers a range of meet and greet tiers for arriving, departing, and transiting passengers. This can range from simply skipping the queue at immigration, all the way to being escorted all the way from the plane to your front door. I Booked The “Silver” Package…
NATO fighter jets from Germany and Romania were scrambled on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in response to a drone incursion that penetrated deeper than ever before into Romanian airspace, authorities said. The breach occurred along Romania’s southeastern border with Ukraine. The Romanian Ministry of National Defense initially dispatched two German Eurofighter jets on air-policing duty, followed by two Romanian F-16s after radar tracked a second drone moving deeper into the country. Romanian Defense Minister Ionuț Moșteanu said the drones entered Romanian territory during daylight, marking a first for such an incursion, and reached more than 100 kilometres (62 miles) inside Romanian airspace. The minister added that…
American Airlines is the world’s largest carrier in multiple respects. It is also the US’s leading international operator, but only by flights. Lower-capacity aircraft and a big emphasis on short-haul international markets mean it is not number one by passengers, seats for sale, or available seat miles. According to Cirium Diio, American has an average of 394 daily international departures in December (double for both ways). Compared to last December, its offering has jumped by 5%. As such, the oneworld member now operates more than one in six of the US’s international services. American’s Top 10 International Routes In December…
A nationwide three-day strike in Belgium has begun, with disruptions expected to escalate across Brussels’ two major airports, affecting air travel throughout the country. The strike is not limited to aviation, with Belgium’s transport network and public services also facing major disruptions from a protest against austerity measures introduced by the Belgium government. The government plans to reduce spending by €10 billion by 2030 to comply with EU debt regulations. Trade unions and the public have strongly opposed these measures, leading to a nationwide strike. The industrial action, organized by several Belgian trade unions, started on November 24, 2025. The most significant disruptions are anticipated on November 26, 2025, as more private-sector companies will participate in…
The Government of the United Kingdom has made its decision regarding which of the two proposals for the new third runway at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) that it would like to take forward. This choice has seen it opt for the longer of the two that were proposed, which, despite requiring a section of the M25 motorway to be moved, is considered to be “the most deliverable.” There is still a long way to go before construction, let alone scheduled airline operations, can begin on the new runway. Still, today’s decision marks an important step forward in the lengthy planning…

Few aircraft in history have shaped aviation quite like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. Both became icons of scale and human ambition for aviation, yet only one features a full-length upper deck that stretches from nose to tail. Why didn’t Boeing ever extend the 747’s trademark hump into a complete second floor? The answer lies in a mix of engineering realities, economic foresight, and the expectations of an era that believed supersonic travel would redefine flying. When Boeing developed the 747 in the 1960s, few imagined it would become the backbone of long-haul travel for half a century. It…
Korean Air announced it will begin phasing out its traditional meal containers from December 2025, replacing them with plant-based alternatives made from agricultural waste materials including straw, sugarcane, and bamboo. The South Korean flag carrier said it plans to gradually introduce the new containers on select routes, with full network implementation expected by the end of 2026. The containers will primarily be used for main entrées in economy class, including Korean and Western meal options. The new packaging is manufactured from non-wood pulp, eliminating the need for tree harvesting while offering heat resistance and durability comparable to conventional plastic containers.…
Interesting news when it comes to airlines holding stakes in other airlines! Closer to the beginning of November it was revealed that Qatar Airways would be divesting itself of its stake in Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific. Considering Qatar Airways has invested in numerous airlines around the world, what does such a move mean for the middle eastern carrier? source
