Thailand-based carrier, Thai Airways, is looking to get board approval to acquire up to 10 new widebody aircraft in the near future, as the airline is looking to make up for the capacity lost by retiring some of the airline’s older jets. Having had its fleet investment plans refused three times previously, the airline’s CEO states that there are high stakes involved, and the need for the airline to increase its fleet capacity is deemed “absolutely necessary” in order for the carrier to maintain its position and connectivity in the region. The Qatari flag carrier and oneworld member’s revered status has seen it become a popular choice for those flying from Europe to Asia via the Middle East. In order to serve its diverse portfolio of routes from its main hub at Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH), Qatar Airways has devised an equally diverse fleet. In the skies of military power, one question stands out: which air force has the most pilots and why? That honor, by most counts, belongs to the United States Air Force (USAF). In our article, we will explore why it leads, how many pilots it fields, how many aircraft it operates, how many planes the average pilot flies, and finally, how one becomes a USAF pilot today. Understanding the scale of the USAF’s pilot corps is important: it reflects the logistics, training, retention, and industrial base necessary to sustain global air power. For aviation enthusiasts, prospective pilots, or defense watchers,…
Emirates is by far the largest operator of the Airbus A380. It purchased around half of the total production output, and continues to operate around half of the world’s remaining fleet of superjumbos. In a manner of speaking, the carrier also recently purchased another A380. Many airliners are not owned by the airlines that operate them and are instead leased from leasing companies, sometimes with the option to buy them later. Emirates has not taken possession of a new A380 since 2021. The largest owner of commercial aircraft in the world is not an individual airline, rather, it’s the Ireland-based…
The promise of the Boeing 777X is a revolution in efficiency for long-haul and high-traffic airlines, but it will also change the game for passenger comfort at the same time. The 777X will be the largest twinjet in history, and, thanks to its massive wingspan and gigantic engines, the plane will far surpass its predecessors in terms of fuel efficiency. The other major improvement that the 777X will bring is a cabin with a more spacious, modern, and comfortable design than any Boeing widebody before it. The cabin of the 777X is inspired by the 787 Dreamliner, Boeing’s first clean-sheet…

New York-based JetBlue will axe its service to Bonaire, a Caribbean island in the Leeward Antilles. The airline, which offers the route currently year-round, will suspend its flights from New York JFK to Flamingo Airport, Bonaire (BON), on January 3. The move, which will see the airline axe its only route to Bonaire after just 14 months, will see the airline completely exit the airport. The route was supported with additional services to all of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao), and will leave American Airlines (Miami), Delta Air Lines (Atlanta), and United Airlines (Houston and Newark) as the…
