Cirium data reveals that around 1,800 Airbus A380 flights are scheduled to European destinations each month across six airlines. The busiest routes include flights to London Heathrow and Paris. Due to the aircraft’s massive size, only the largest and best equipped airports are capable of dealing with the A380. Data from marketing materials released in 2015 revealed a vast airport compatibility network. This included 125 destination compatible airports, but far more that could serve as alternate compatible airports in an emergency and ones that could become compatible in the future. Read this article to learn about the airports that can…

US federal investigators probing the deadly crash of a UPS MD-11 in Louisville have released a preliminary report showing that the airplane’s left engine was operating normally at the time of the tragedy and did not fail or fall from the freighter to the runway. Instead, the report says the engine and pylon were torn from the wing during the takeoff rotation, vaulting up and over the fuselage as the trijet lifted off on the late afternoon of November 4, 2025.  The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its preliminary report on November 20, 2025, providing the clearest picture yet of what may have caused the crash of UPS Flight 2976, an MD-11F that went down in flames shortly…

Hello from France, as I continue the outbound portion of my review trip to Bangkok! For the second segment of my trip, I flew Air France’s Boeing 787-9 business class on the 6hr25min flight from Montreal (YUL) to Paris (CDG). While I fly Air France across the Atlantic fairly frequently, it had been many years since I flew the carrier’s Dreamliner business class, which admittedly doesn’t have the latest products (unlike some Airbus A350-900s and Boeing 777-300ERs). I’ve gotta say, as usual, Air France impresses across the Atlantic, even if the Dreamliner doesn’t have cutting edge seats. I found the service…

United Airlines will no longer fly between Newark and Stockholm. Inherited from Continental, the Star Alliance member’s seasonal service will not return in 2026. The airline has confirmed the route’s elimination on November 19. This airport pair is somewhat more notable than others. Timed at up to 8h 45m, it was going to be the longest scheduled transatlantic Boeing 757 passenger operation. And while Russia’s Azur Air has a marginally longer winter 757 service between Moscow and the Maldives, United’s Swedish offering was down to be the world’s longest 757 operation next summer. United Ends Flights From Newark To Sweden…

Congressional leaders have introduced a bipartisan bill designed to ensure that US air traffic controllers and other key Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) workers continue to receive pay during any future government shutdowns. The proposal, called the Aviation Funding Solvency Act, is backed by the top Republicans and Democrats on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  The measure would draw from a rarely used $2.6 billion insurance fund originally established to compensate airlines if the federal government ever requisitioned their aircraft. Lawmakers say tapping that fund would prevent a repeat of the recent 43-day shutdown, when thousands of controllers and other essential aviation workers were forced to stay…

On November 4, 2025, we saw a horrific accident, whereby a UPS McDonell Douglas MD-11 crashed while taking off from Louisville (SDF), killing the three pilots onboard, plus 11 people on the ground. Just over two weeks after the accident, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its preliminary report, and the findings confirm what most people had suspected. UPS MD-11 had fatigue cracks on engine pylon mount lug Since there was video of the UPS MD-11 crash, we had a sense of what happened. Specifically, we know that the plane’s left engine separated from the plane during the…

The A220 is Airbus’ newest and most advanced airliner. It wasn’t developed by the company (instead, by Bombardier as the CSeries), but it is the newest clean-sheet aircraft sold by Airbus today, and it’s one of the most innovative aircraft in production today. Carbon composites make up roughly 46% of the plane’s weight, and the plane’s aerodynamic design is among the most advanced in the world, while also using the innovative Pratt & Whitney PW1500G geared turbofan engine. The A220 has always seen moderate but steady sales, but under the management of Airbus, the A220 has become more successful than…

flydubai has captured the spotlight at the 2025 edition of the Dubai Airshow.   On November 18, 2025, the Emirati carrier surprised industry players by placing an unprecedented order for 150 Airbus A321neo aircraft plus 100 options, its first-ever commitment to the European manufacturer. This was followed a day later by an additional order, this time with US aircraft manufacturer Boeing for 75 B737 MAX aircraft.  As part of our coverage of the Dubai Airshow 2025, AeroTime attended a Q&A session with flydubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith on November 19, 2025, in which the airline executive outlined the key considerations behind the latest raft of orders and shared his vision for the future of the airline.    Al Ghaith clearly stated that the choice of the A321neo had been guided by two main considerations: the ability of the A321neo family to offer up to 15 additional seats and two hours of extra flight time compared to its most direct competitor. …

Airline and hotel loyalty programs always try to tell us how special we are when we earn status. But how special are we really, in comparison to other guests? This is something we almost never find out, though here are some interesting insights… Hilton Honors may have almost 1.4 million Diamond members Hilton Honors recently announced a major loyalty program overhaul, including the introduction of a new Diamond Reserve tier, above the current Diamond tier. The idea is that Diamond status is currently really easy to earn (even just with holding onto a credit card), so it makes sense to…

On November 18 and 19, Iberia, JetBlue, LATAM, and WestJet collectively announced 13 new transatlantic routes between the Americas and Europe. JetBlue’s additions comprise Boston to both Milan and Barcelona, which will become the carrier’s new first- and second-longest markets.
