China Eastern Airlines has introduced the longest intercontinental flight in the world, linking Shanghai and Buenos Aires via a nonstop journey that spans nearly half the globe. The route not only establishes a new record for the longest direct flight but also reduces travel time between China and South America by more than four hours. In a statement issued on December 5, 2025, China Eastern Airlines announced that the flight had arrived in Buenos Aires successfully on December 4, 2025. “Our Shanghai–Auckland–Buenos Aires route will make travel between China, New Zealand, and Argentina easier, transport specialty goods to new markets faster, and build a bridge for cultural dialogue among the three countries,” the carrier said. December 5, 2025, ©. Leeham News: We do a series on ways to shorten the long development times for large airliners. New projects aim to cut development time and achieve certification and production faster than previous projects. The series will discuss the typical development cycles for an FAA Part 25 aircraft, called a transport category aircraft, and the different approaches to reducing development time. We will use the Gantt plan in Figure 1 as a base for our discussions. We have exited the Detailed Design phase after conducting Critical Design Reviews, CDRs, and now enter into Prototype Manufacturing. After reviewing…
Airbus will need to pull out all the stops if it is to meet its revised annual aircraft delivery target, having confirmed that 42 customers received a total of 72 planes in November 2025. On December 3, 2025, Airbus announced that its annual target of “around 820” deliveries had been cut to 790, citing a “recent supplier quality issue on fuselage panels impacting its A320 Family delivery flow”. With the European manufacturer confirming on December 5, 2025, that 72 aircraft were delivered in November 2025, the grand total for the year now stands at 657 – requiring 133 more deliveries…

For years, the Boeing 777-200ER has proven itself as a workhorse for airlines around the world. The aircraft’s combination of range, capacity, and efficiency resulted in a perfect fit to cover the gap between the smaller Boeing 767 and larger Boeing 747. The first aircraft of this type was delivered to British Airways back in 1997, and since then, over 400 have been delivered to 33 different airlines. This makes the aircraft the second most popular in the Boeing 777 family after the Boeing 777-300ER. Today, the largest operator of the type is United Airlines, which operates a sub-fleet of…
American Airlines is expanding its flight schedule during next year’s FIFA World Cup, helping its customers to travel between host cities during the upcoming tournament in June and July 2026. This includes two new nonstop connections and more flights on existing routes, as well as upgrading to larger aircraft types. This will add around 27,000 additional seats across 12 routes next summer, with tickets for these flights already on sale. The airline has also revealed more opportunities for AAdvantage members to redeem miles for all match tickets at the FIFA World Cup 2026. American Airlines Announces Major World Cup 2026…
Hypersonic weapons have emerged in the collective consciousness as a significant development in modern warfare, offering unprecedented speed and maneuverability. From a purely physical point of view, however, hypersonic flight is not new. The first man-made vehicle to reach such speeds was the Bumper sounding rocket, based on the German V-2, which reached 5,150 miles (about 8,300 kilometers) per hour during a test on February 24, 1949. Ballistic missiles have routinely crossed Mach 5 since the 1960s, with intercontinental missiles reaching up to Mach 20 during the re-entry phase of their flight. Yet for the past decade, and even more…
An Edelweiss Airbus A340-300 experienced a bird strike on December 1, 2025, during its landing at Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland. The aircraft touched down and taxied to the gate without any issues, according to a report by The Aviation Herald. During a post-flight maintenance inspection, technicians discovered damage to the aircraft’s fourth engine on the right wing. The maintenance team repaired the engine promptly, and the aircraft returned to service on December 3, 2025, as per flight-tracking data from Flightradar24.com. A Closer Look Into The Incident Credit: Shutterstock On December 1, 2025, the 22-year-old Edelweiss Airbus A340-300, registered HB-JMC, was…
Today, we are going to compare two aircraft that are difficult to compare. But both represent peak engineering ideas for Boeing and Airbus, respectively. We are talking about the Boeing 747-8I and Airbus A350. Although they occupy roughly the same segment of long-haul aviation, the 747-8I remains substantially larger on many dimensions. In this article, we will take a look at the technical size comparison, then a look into how that size translates, for better or worse, into passenger experience, cabin layout, and what it means when carriers such as Lufthansa fly both types side by side. This isn’t simply…
Alaska Airlines has announced that it’s opening a new pilot base. As reported by the Anchorage Daily News, the carrier will be basing Boeing 737 pilots at San Diego International Airport beginning in June 2026. This comes as Alaska Airlines continues to build up its presence in San Diego, and the airport is now Alaska Airlines’ fastest-growing hub. Alaska Airlines primarily focuses its operations in Seattle-Tacoma, and it also has secondary options in Portland, Anchorage, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. The carrier has been struggling in Los Angeles and San Francisco compared to its other operations, while its build-up in…
