The Air France-KLM Flying Blue program has a credit card in the United States, issued by Bank of America. It’s a card that I have, as someone who has Flying Blue Platinum status. We’ve just learned about some changes coming to the card, and they’re entirely positive, as I see it (thanks to Levi for flagging this). What’s changing about the Air France-KLM credit card Over the coming weeks, we’re going to see some major changes to Flying Blue’s credit card in the United States. For one, in March 2026 we’re going to see the card converted from a Mastercard…
In interviews to Defence 24, Deputy General Commander Maj. Gen. Ireneusz Nowak pointed to the need for a new AEW&C platform, given the limited remaining lifespan of the Saab 340s. The Polish Air Force (PolAF) would like to replace its Saab 340 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, bought second-hand a few years ago, given the platform’s age and the limited remaining lifespan. These issues were covered in two extensive interviews with the PolAF brass and an L3Harris executive by Defence 24 in December 2025 and this month, respectively. With the E-7A Wedgtail considered over-budget, business jet-based AEW&C platforms…
Poland has decided to transfer its remaining MiG-29s to Ukraine, with talks underway for the delivery of the first batch, in exchange for know-how on drone technology. The Polish government confirmed it plans to transfer the Polish Air Force’s MiG-29 Fulcrums to Ukraine, following talks between the two countries. The development, announced by Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski to the Polish news channel TVP World and reported by Polish news outlet Interia, follows the disclosure in December 2025 of the ongoing negotiations by the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. As we reported here at The Aviationist on that…
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far! We just wrapped up a family ski trip this week (which I’m still recovering from — three-year-olds are fun but exhausting when outside their usual element!), so you can expect a few hotel reviews over the coming days. On the points & travel front, this week Bilt unveiled massive changes to its credit cards and housing rewards, United bumped its Boeing 787-10 order, Elon Musk and Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary got into it over Starlink, United announced a big MileagePlus leadership change, and more. With that out of the way,…

Threshold Crossing Height The theoretical height above the runway threshold at which the aircraft’s glideslope antenna would be if the aircraft maintains the trajectory established by the mean ILS glideslope or the altitude at which the calculated glidepath of an RNAV or GPS approaches.
The avianca lifemiles program is one of the most useful frequent flyer programs out there for redeeming miles. The beauty of lifemiles is that it’s not just useful if you want to fly with avianca, but also if you want to travel on any Star Alliance carrier, especially in a premium cabin. In this post, I’d like to take a closer look at the lifemiles program — I’ll talk about earning and redeeming miles, and general tips for maximizing value. Let me acknowledge upfront that some people strongly dislike the lifemiles program, and I see where they’re coming from, given…
