The St. Regis brand is making a comeback to Hawaii, with the conversion of a property that has huge accommodations… The Resort at Kapalua Bay joining St. Regis brand Marriott has signed an agreement with Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners to have the Resort at Kapalua Bay join Marriott’s portfolio. So, how soon is this all happening? Marriott’s management of the hotel has started as of March 14, 2026, without belonging to any particular Marriott brand. Thanks to that, Marriott Bonvoy members have a points and status angle (however, I’m not sure about points redemptions, due to the types of accommodations).…
One of the upcoming Boeing 787 operators I was most looking forward to flying has just canceled its order for the plane at the last minute. Not only that, but with the carrier’s current wide body aircraft expected to be retired soon, one wonders what the future holds… Air Niugini’s wide body future is looking very uncertain Air Niugini, the government owned national airline of Papua New Guinea, no longer has plans to acquire two Boeing 787-8s, as reported by ch-aviation. For context, in 2023, the airline placed an order for two Dreamliners — deliveries were initially expected in 2026,…
Within the Lufthansa Group, SWISS is by far the most profitable airline, with margins that are 10x better than at Lufthansa. Despite that, it’s interesting to note that the airline is significantly overstaffed, to the point that the company is offering flight attendants money to resign. SWISS has too many flight attendants, wants cost savings aeroTELEGRAPH reports how SWISS management has informed the carrier’s roughly 4,500 flight attendants of the need to reduce staffing levels. Long story short, the airline has too many flight attendants due to a combination of engine issues that are keeping (A220 and A320-family) aircraft grounded,…
In passing, I often talk about airline wet lease agreements. I understand some OMAAT readers know exactly what that is, while others may have no clue. So in this post I’d like to talk about that in a bit more detail — what is an airline wet lease agreement, how do airlines benefit from it, and what are the implications for passengers? The basics of airline wet lease agreements Simply put, a wet lease is a contractual arrangement between two airlines, where one airline provides an aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI), to another airline. Wet lease agreements can come…
World of Hyatt’s Guest of Honor perk is one of my favorite benefits offered by any hotel loyalty program. In this post, I’d like to take a close look at how this works, as it’s one of the few opportunities in the hotel industry to share elite benefits with others. World of Hyatt Guest of Honor perks basicsWorld of Hyatt Guest of Honor awards are offered as part of the Milestone Rewards program, and allow hotel guests to take advantage of World of Hyatt Globalist perks for a stay. These offer a lot of flexibility — you can use Guest…
Atlas Air, a key supplier of contracted air transport to the U.S. military, placed the largest order of any operator so far for the new Airbus freighter, which will complement their Boeing 747s, 767s, and 777s. Michael Steen, Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air, signed the deal with Airbus in Toulouse, France, on Mar. 16, 2026. Atlas Air will begin taking deliveries of its new aircraft from 2029, with the final of 20 Airbus A350Fs due in 2034. This figure will see Atlas Air operate twice as many A350Fs than the next largest operators, and also marks the first time…
Update: An Alaska spokesperson has confirmed that there was a technical issue affecting the prices of some connections on partner flights involving Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and that issue has been resolved. There are no changes to the award charts. For context, you can find the initial story from yesterday (March 15, 2026) below. We’ll mark this as “developing” for now, as it remains to be seen whether this is a massive devaluation, or just a glitch. Alaska Atmos Rewards greatly increases award costs The Alaska Atmos Rewards program publishes award charts, a practice that many of us…
Up until recently, Dubai International Airport (DXB) was the busiest in the world, though that has changed in the past few weeks. With the United States and Israel attacking Iran, and Iran then responding, there has been chaos in the region, with implications that are being felt globally. As much as Emirates has been trying to basically resume its full schedule in the coming weeks, things aren’t looking so good, as Dubai faced another major setback today. Dubai Airport fuel tank attacked by drone, causing fire Early today (Monday, March 16, 2026), Dubai Airport was attacked for the third time…
