Vietjet Thailand receives first Boeing 737-8 as part of $32B expansion

Low-cost airline Vietjet’s Thai subsidiary, Vietjet Thailand, has officially taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8, marking a significant step in its $32 billion fleet expansion throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The delivery took place at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) in Bangkok on November 22, 2025. The newly received Boeing 737 is part of Vietjet Thailand’s plan to expand its fleet with 50 Boeing aircraft of the type.

These aircraft were originally ordered by Vietjet in 2018. In May 2025, the airline announced that the first batch of the order would be transferred to its Thai subsidiary, with all deliveries expected to be completed by 2031.

“This marks a significant milestone in the airline’s strategy to align its fleet by market, enhance operational efficiency, and promote sustainable development as an international aviation group,” Vietjet announced in a statement on November 23, 2025.

In a separate announcement made on the same day, Vietjet Thailand said that the Boeing 737-8 features advanced engineering and is fully compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), enabling a reduction in CO2 emissions by 15–20%.

“This achievement reinforces our commitment to the ‘Fly Green’ initiative and reflects our dedication to sustainable growth in the aviation sector,” Vietjet Thailand added.

Additionally, the carrier said that the expansion aims to meet growing travel demand and broaden its network, connecting key destinations across the Asia–Pacific region.

To support this growth strategy, Vietjet Thailand has also announced plans to introduce new direct routes in the upcoming months to Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, Cam Ranh, and other locations using its newly delivered Boeing 737-8.

The new aircraft will be used exclusively for the Thai subsidiary’s operations, while Vietjet’s flights in Vietnam will continue to operate with its existing Airbus fleet.

However, in September 2025, Vietjet received its first non-Airbus aircraft, also a Boeing 737-8, which the airline said will serve its high-demand regional routes.
