UPDATE: Alaska Airlines places largest ever aircraft order with Boeing

Alaska Airlines has announced it is placing a record order with Boeing for 105 additional 737 MAX 10 aircraft, which will bring its total order book for this model to 174 units, and five B787 widebody airliners for an undisclosed amount. The order also includes 35 options for B737 MAX 10 aircraft.

The former will expand the airline’s fleet as well as replace some of the 248 Boeing aircraft it currently operates, while the latter will be used to strengthen its recently launched long-haul operations to Europe and Asia.

The last couple of years have seen Alaska Airlines undergo massive corporate changes, first with the acquisition and integration of Hawaiian Airlines in 2023, then with the announcement, in 2025, of the launch of a dozen long-haul routes out of its hub at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).

This deal coincides with the 60th anniversary of Alaska Airlines’ first Boeing aircraft order, a detail highlighted by both companies when announcing the deal.

The order will be delivered through 2035, although no specific details have been provided about the expected delivery calendar or the cabin layout that the new aircraft will be fitted with.

“These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe and ensure our guests travel aboard the newest, most fuel-efficient and state-of-the-art aircraft,” said Ben Minicucci, CEO of the Alaska Air Group at an event in Seattle, Washington, during which the order announcement was made.

Alaska Airlines also used the occasion to publicly welcome the first B787-9, painted in the new blue-and-green Aurora Borealis-themed livery. The aircraft will be used by its long-haul fleet.
