STARLUX Airlines to launch direct Sydney-Taiwan flights starting 2027

Taiwanese carrier STARLUX Airlines will launch direct flights between Sydney Airport (SYD) and Taiwan beginning in 2027, with an onward service to Auckland Airport (AKL) in New Zealand.

The new route, which was announced on June 2, 2026, will make Sydney the first Australian airport to welcome STARLUX, which launched in 2020 and has quickly built a reputation for premium service.

Taiwan, a fast-growing market for Sydney

Taiwan is one of Sydney’s fastest-growing travel markets. Passenger numbers between the two grew 18% in 2025 to nearly 194,000. Taiwan also serves as a regional hub, offering Sydney passengers convenient onward connections to destinations across Asia, Europe, Japan, and the US through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said the new service gives passengers more choice, competition, and connectivity.

“This new partnership reflects the continued demand for premium travel experiences and reinforces the importance of Sydney Airport as a key global aviation hub,” he said.

STARLUX’s first step into Australia

STARLUX CEO Glenn Chai said Sydney was a natural fit for the airline’s expansion. “Sydney is one of the world’s great gateway cities and we are excited to connect travelers with our award-winning service and premium travel experience,” he said.

Chai added that the route will strengthen links between Australia and Taiwan while giving customers seamless connections through Taipei to destinations across Asia and beyond. “We look forward to welcoming Australian travelers on board and building a long-term presence in this important market,” he said.

Flight schedules are currently being finalized, with further details to be announced shortly.

Starlux Airlines officially launched the flights to the United States with its first departure to Los Angeles US
