Solomon Airlines announced it is adding a new weekly service between Honiara International Airport (HIR) and Jacksons International Airport (POM) in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, giving travelers from the Solomon Islands same-day connections to several major Asian cities.

The route launches on June 30, 2026, and will operate every Tuesday. Flights depart Honiara at 09:40 local time, and arrive in Port Moresby at 11:00 local time, with enough time for passengers to catch onward flights to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) and Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) on the same day.

In the other direction, the return flight leaves Port Moresby at noon, allowing same-day connections from Guangzhou, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) in Manila, Hong Kong International Airport (HKG), and Singapore.

A new option for travel between Europe and the Solomon Islands

The airline said the new route also creates a more efficient path between Europe and Honiara by routing through Guangzhou, in partnership with China Southern Airlines.

Beyond the Asia connections, the Port Moresby service will also link travelers to Port Vila in Vanuatu via Honiara, strengthening regional ties across the Pacific.

Matthew Findlay, CEO of Solomon Airlines said the new route is a major step in the airline’s international expansion.

“This is a significant step in building our presence in China and improving access between Asia and the Solomon Islands. With our new Port Moresby service, we are creating more seamless connections for travellers and opening up new opportunities for tourism and trade.”

New sales agent in China

Alongside the route announcement, Solomon Airlines has appointed TK Aviation Service, based in Guangzhou, as its official passenger sales agent in China. The company will handle sales and market development across the country and work with partners including China Southern Airlines to promote the Solomon Islands as a destination.

The airline is positioning the Solomon Islands as an emerging option for Chinese travelers, highlighting the destination’s diving sites, World War 2history, and cultural experiences.
