Safran and Embraer agree to end aircraft interior partnership in Mexico

Safran and Embraer have agreed to end their aircraft interior partnership in Chihuahua, Mexico, after the French aerospace firm decided to sell its stake.

On January 19, 2026, Safran announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement with Embraer for the sale of Safran Cabin’s shares in EZAir subject to regulatory approvals.

EZAir, which employs 1,100 people at the facility in Chihuahua, operates as a 50/50 joint venture, manufacturing Embraer’s aircraft interiors.

The agreement also includes aftermarket activities, as well as engineering and manufacturing activities in Brazil.

The Chihuahua location will be wholly owned by Embraer along with Safran Cabin Brazil business activities related to the Brazilian planemaker.

“The non-Embraer related engineering services activities of Safran Cabin Brazil will remain with Safran,” said a spokesperson for Safran.

According to Safran’s website, EZAir provides complete interiors for Embraer’s E-Jets E1 and E2 regional aircraft, including luggage cabins, galleys, toilets, floor panels and sidewalls.

After opening an aircraft interior facility in Tijuana, Mexico in 1992, Safran built a new manufacturing site in Chihuahua eight years later to make Boeing 737 MAX galleys.

Safran has over 15,000 employees in Mexico across 20 aviation related sites and is the number one aerospace employer in the country.
