Swiss aircraft manufacturer Pilatus has delivered the world’s first PC-12 PRO in aeromedical configuration to Australia’s famed flying doctors.

On March 4, 2026, Pilatus announced that the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) Central Operations had taken ownership of its first of five brand-new PC-12 PRO Aeromedical in a continuation of their 30-year partnership.

The PC-12 PROs will form part of the Central Operations fleet, regularly flying through the central corridor of South Australia and Northern Territory, delivering life-saving medical care to those in some of Australia’s remotest regions.

“The PC-12 has an outstanding safety record, and a proven history of reliability operating in the diverse and challenging environments where we deliver services, from southern Australia to the tropics in the Top End. It will strengthen our fleet reliability and our ability to respond quickly, safely and efficiently,” said RFDS SA/NT Chief Executive Tony Vaughan ASM.

Pilatus highlighted the PC-12 PRO’s pressurized cabin at over nine cubic meters, facilitating room for patients, crew, and high-tech medical equipment. The aircraft also includes a large cargo door and lift system to allow quick and easy patient loading.

Commenting on the arrival, Dave Scutchings, CEO of Pilatus’ subsidiary in Australia, said the aircraft will support the RFDS in achieving its mission of “Furthest corner, Finest care”. The five aircraft cost $42 million (AUD $60 million) to purchase.

According to RFDS, the new PC-12 was ferried in a cross-continental journey from Switzerland to Australia by the organization’s pilot, Michael Jarman.

The aircraft was welcomed upon arrival this week at the RFDS Alice Springs and Adelaide Bases and was given a water salute by Airservices Australia Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS).

The PC-12 PRO includes Garmin 3000 avionics system and a suite of innovative safety features such as the new Safety Autoland System.

“We are proud to support our long-term partner RFDS as they expand their air ambulance fleet with the acquisition of the latest model of the proven PC-12 PRO. This milestone reflects not only the strength of our enduring relationship, but also a shared commitment to delivering critical, life-saving services to communities in Australia,” said André Zimmermann, VP Business Aviation, Pilatus Aircraft.
