Pegasus Airlines has signed a deal with CFM International for up to 300 LEAP-1B engines, destined to power the airline’s future Boeing 737-10 fleet. The deal also includes the provision of spare engines and long-term maintenance services by the engine maker.
The relationship between the Turkish airline and CFM International has a long history. In fact, Pegasus Airlines became the first LEAP engine operator on August 2, 2016, when one of the carrier’s Airbus A320neos flew between Istanbul Sabiha-Gökcen (SAW) and Antalya (AYT) powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines.
Pegasus Airlines fleet has also been using earlier CFM engine types, such as the CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B.
Güliz Öztürk, CEO of Pegasus Airlines, highlighted this long-ongoing relationship when announcing the LEAP deal:
“Since we launched operations in 1990, CFM engines have played a major role in helping Pegasus build a reliable, efficient fleet that serves our customers. We have been extremely pleased with the operation of the LEAP engine family and look forward to bringing the same performance and stability to our Boeing 737-10 fleet. The lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency of LEAP-1B engines will significantly contribute to both our 2030 CO reduction target and the 2050 net-zero CO industry emissions goal.”
In December 2024, Pegasus Airlines placed the largest single order in its history, for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 plus an additional 100 options. This order stunned the industry, since the airline had been transitioning until that point to an all-Airbus fleet. In 2023, it had increased its outstanding A321neo order by 36 aircraft, to a total of 150.
The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft are expected to enter service with Pegasus Airlines in 2028.
