Lufthansa: certification win opens all but three 787-9 Allegris business seats

Lufthansa has opened all but three Boeing 787-9 Allegris business seats for booking, following a breakthrough in the US certification process.

On February 16, 2026, Lufthansa confirmed that 25 of 28 seats in the new Lufthansa Allegris business class product would be available on Dreamliner flights from April 15, 2026.

Lufthansa noted that an “important milestones in the certification process” had been reached in recent weeks, finally enabling the carrier to utilize almost every Allegris business seat on its fleet of new 787-9s.

So far, eight brand-new Dreamliners have arrived in Frankfurt, with 21 more on order for delivery in the future.

Since October 2025, brand-new Boeing 787-9 aircraft have been flying from Frankfurt, but only a handful of Allegris business seats have been available to book.

Lufthansa’s Airbus A350-900s fitted with Allegris have successfully been flying around the world from Munich since October 2025.

“Our guests love Allegris,” said Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines. “More than one million passengers have traveled in the new cabin since Summer 2024. We are delighted to be able to offer significantly more passengers this top-of-the-range product for bookings from Frankfurt starting today.”

He added: “Allegris is an experience in all classes; the approval of the majority of seats in Business Class on the Boeing 787-9 is an important milestone for Lufthansa – and above all, great news for our customers!”

One of Allegris’ main selling points is that the business class product comes with a variety of seat choices, designed for different profiles of travelers.

Passengers have the option to book seats with additional comfort such as the Business Class Suite, the Extra Space Seat with extra legroom, the Privacy Seat by the window, or the Extra Long Bed with a 2.20-meter lying surface.

From Frankfurt, the Boeing 787-9 with Allegris will fly to Austin, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Cape Town, Shanghai, Hyderabad and Hong Kong at the start of the summer flight schedule. New York JFK and Los Angeles will be added as destinations in June, followed by Delhi in July.

Lufthansa confirmed the three seats that can’t be booked yet are in the second row of the compartment.
