Lufthansa cabin crew call strike this week as pilot walkout enters second day

Lufthansa flight attendants have called a two-day strike to run concurrently with a pilot walkout that entered its second day on April 14, 2026.

On April 13, 2026, the Independent Flight Attendants’ Organization (UFO) said that Lufthansa cabin crew would take industrial action on April 15 and 16, 2026, affecting flights departing Munich Airport (MUC) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA).

“Over the past few months, the employers have made it clear that they are unwilling to adequately address our demands and are stalling. For this reason, negotiations have failed. We are therefore forced to enforce our demands through a strike,” said a spokesperson for the UFO.

Additionally, flight attendants working for Lufthansa CityLine will also join the strike impacting operations leaving Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Bremen, Stuttgart, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin and Hanover.

The new call to action follows a flight attendant walkout on April 10, 2026, that resulted in more than 520 flight cancellations.

Lufthansa

The latest headache for Lufthansa management comes as its pilots enter a second day of strikes on April 14, 2026, due to a lack of progress in multiple collective bargaining negotiations.

The industrial action, called by the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), includes pilots across the Lufthansa Group, including Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa CityLine, and Eurowings.

“A strike is always the last resort to bring movement to failed negotiations. We would have been very happy to do without it – especially against the background of the strain on our passengers and our colleagues on the ground. However, the responsibility for this lies with the employer,” said Andreas Pinheiro, VC President, before the start of the two-day strike.

A statement that currently appears on the Lufthansa website said: “We sincerely regret the disruption caused by the strike announced at short notice by the unions Vereinigung Cockpit and UFO and thank you for your understanding.”

According to FlightAware, across Lufthansa and Lufthansa CityLine around 555 flights have been cancelled on April 14, 2026, and around 900 were axed on April 13, 2026.

Lufthansa said it is proactively contacting affected passengers by email and asking them to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.

When addressing previous strikes held this year by Lufthansa staff the head of HR at Lufthansa Michael Niggemann, said: “Given the low margin at Lufthansa Classic, which in itself would not allow for investment in new aircraft, there is no scope for further increases. Strikes will not change this.”

Vereinigung Cockpit has said Middle Eastern flights are exempt from the pilot strike, due to the conflict in the region.
