Kuwaiti air defenses intercept ‘hostile’ missile and drone attacks

Kuwaiti air defenses have intercepted “hostile” missile and drone attacks, with the ceasefire between the US and Iran looking increasingly fragile.

On May 28, 2026, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces issued a statement about explosions in the region, declaring that they were the result of air defense systems engaging aggressive threats.

Members of the public were advised to follow safety and security instructions issued by Kuwaiti authorities. No one has claimed responsibility for the latest attacks.

According to the Associated Press, the escalation came after US forces in the Middle East destroyed four Iranian one-way attack drones around the Strait of Hormuz.

Anonymous US officials told the news outlet that the US also hit an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was preparing to launch another drone.

“These actions were measured, purely defensive, and intended to maintain the ceasefire,” a US official said, according to Fox News.

In response to the attack on Bandar Abbas, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had struck an “American airbase”.

According to a statement by the state-run IRNA news agency, as cited by Al Jazerra, the airbase was identified as the location of the US “aggression” and was subsequently targeted during the early hours on May 28, 2026.

Negotiations between the US and Iran are ongoing, with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions and Iranian stockpiles of highly enriched uranium central to discussions.
