Iberia launches new nonstop service linking Madrid to Monterrey, Mexico

Spanish flag carrier and International Airlines Group (IAG) member Iberia is strengthening its footprint in Latin America with the launch of a new nonstop route between Madrid-Barajas (MAD) and Monterrey, Mexico (MTY).

The new thrice-weekly service will debut on June 2, 2025, departing Madrid at 12.55 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the return leg on the same day at 18.50, all times local. Iberia will use Monterrey International Airport’s Terminal A.

While Iberia opted to use its new Airbus A321XLR to launch a bunch of new long-haul routes earlier this year, the Monterrey service will be operated by a larger Airbus A330-200 widebody aircraft with 288 seats (19 in business and 269 in economy class).

Iberia will compete with Aeromexico on this route. The Mexican carrier, a member of the competitor SkyTeam alliance, operates a daily flight between the two cities using a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

Monterrey, the capital of the state of Nuevo León, is Mexico’s third largest city and the economic and industrial hub of northern Mexico.

México is an important market for Iberia, which already operates three nonstop services per day to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) with Airbus A350 aircraft. With the addition of Monterrey, the Spanish airline will offer close to 800,000 seats per year between the two countries.
