South Africa’s largest airline, FlySafair, has reacted positively to a planned takeover by investment holding company Harith and its affiliates.

On February 20, 2026, FlySafair and Harith both released statements regarding a sale and purchase agreement that would see the carrier fall under new ownership.

The airline reassured passengers and staff that it was still “business as usual” and that the airline will “continue to operate under its existing brand, leadership and strategy”.

“The proposed transaction reflects confidence in a business built on operational discipline, a committed workforce and a clear strategic focus, positioning FlySafair for long-term sustainability,” said a spokesperson for FlySafair.

In its own statement Harith described FlySafair as one of South Africa’s “most successful and fastest-growing” airlines and expressed confidence in its “proven operating model, strong management team and long-term growth prospects”.

“The intention is to support FlySafair as a disciplined and successful business, maintaining continuity under its existing leadership and further bolstering Harith’s strategy to secure an integrated transport network. By providing patient, long-term capital, Harith supports FlySafair’s existing strategy to enhance affordability, reliability and connectivity,” said a spokesperson for Harith.

They added: “The proposed investment is aligned with FlySafair’s existing trajectory and supports the airline’s continued focus on operational excellence and sustainable growth.”

Both Harith and FlySafair confirmed that the deal is subject to regulatory approvals by the relevant authorities, including the Competition Commission and relevant aviation authorities.

Harith said that the transaction ”follows a long-standing shareholder exit process at FlySafair that has been under consideration for several years”.

Timelines for the conclusion of the transaction are entirely dependent on the approval processes that follow.
