Etihad Airways launches Hong Kong flights, enters codeshare with HK Airlines

Etihad Airways and Hong Kong Airlines have announced an expanded partnership featuring a new codeshare agreement and a reciprocal loyalty program.

The agreement was formalized at a ceremony in Hong Kong on November 4, 2025, coinciding with the arrival of Etihad’s maiden flight from Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

Under the new codeshare arrangement, Hong Kong Airlines flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi will be available for booking under Etihad’s “EY” code.

Likewise, travelers can fly from Abu Dhabi to several Japanese destinations including Fukuoka, Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa on Hong Kong Airlines-operated flights carrying the “HX” code.

The collaboration enables travelers to book a single ticket for multi-leg journeys, get one-stop check-ins, and have baggage automatically transferred between flights. The partnership positions Abu Dhabi as a convenient hub connecting Greater China and Japan with the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

According to Etihad, once the partnership is implemented, members of Hong Kong Airlines’ Fortune Wings Club and Etihad Guest will be able to earn and redeem miles across both carriers’ global networks.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said the collaboration will deliver “meaningful value” to frequent flyers.

“This partnership offers full earn-and-redeem access across Hong Kong Airlines’ network, complemented by enhanced connectivity to high-demand Japanese destinations,” De said. “It reinforces our commitment to providing guests with greater flexibility, reach, and rewards.”

Louis Li, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Airlines, described the agreement as a key step in the airline’s return to the international market.

“The expansion of our codeshare and the launch of a reciprocal loyalty program not only benefit travelers from both airlines but also set the stage for deeper commercial cooperation,” Li said.

He added that the partnership, which began in 2014, reflects growing travel demand between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and major Asian destinations.

“Abu Dhabi plays a vital role in connecting Hong Kong and the Middle East, supporting trade and tourism growth,” Li noted. “We believe this renewed partnership will generate significant opportunities for both airlines and enhance convenience for business and leisure travelers alike.”
