Embraer expands supply chain network in India as part of Asia-Pacific strategy

Embraer announced that it is expanding its supply chain operations in India. The Brazilian aerospace company recently concluded an executive visit that assessed potential suppliers across key aerospace manufacturing capabilities from aerostructures to software development.

Roberto Chaves, Embraer’s Executive Vice President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain, led the recent assessment mission that evaluated potential suppliers across critical aerospace capabilities including aerostructures assembly, machining, composites, and software development.

“We reaffirm our strong commitment to collaborating with India’s aerospace industry,” Chaves said during the visit. “Our focus is on advancing joint initiatives in defense and civil aviation, contributing to technological innovation, operational excellence, and long-term strategic partnerships.”

Building local infrastructure

The supply chain push is a concrete expansion of Embraer’s Indian operations. The company recently opened its New Delhi office and established a dedicated local procurement team to support sourcing initiatives across the country.

Embraer assessed capabilities ranging from traditional manufacturing from metal forming, machining, and hardware production, to more advanced areas like wiring systems and software development. The evaluation suggests the company sees India not just as a cost-effective manufacturing base, but as a source for higher-value aerospace components.

The Brazilian manufacturer currently operates more than 44 aircraft in India across its commercial, executive, and defense portfolios. This includes five VIP jets used by the Indian government and three EMB 145 airborne early warning aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.

Strategic partnerships emerging

The supply chain expansion coincides with Embraer’s broader partnership strategy in India. In January 2026, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Adani Defence & Aerospace to develop what it called an “integrated regional transport aircraft ecosystem” in the country.

The Adani partnership could eventually lead to assembly line establishment for Embraer regional aircraft in India, fitting within the Modi government’s Aatmanirbhar Aviation initiative launched in 2020. This program aims to boost domestic aerospace capabilities across both military and civilian sectors.

“India is a pivotal market for Embraer, and this partnership combines our aerospace expertise with Adani’s strong industrial capabilities and commitment to indigenization,” said Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation.

Government policy alignment

The timing also aligns with India’s push to develop commercial regional aviation under the UDAN program. UDAN, which stands for “Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik” (Hindi for “let common citizens fly”), was launched in 2016. It is an Indian government initiative designed to make air travel affordable and accessible for common citizens.which aims to improve air connectivity for second and third-tier cities. The initiative has attracted attention from multiple aircraft manufacturers and operators due to the growth potential it represents.

For Embraer, India represents both an immediate sourcing opportunity and a long-term market play. As global supply chains remain under pressure and aerospace demand recovers, establishing reliable supplier relationships in major markets like India becomes increasingly strategic.
