Breeze Airways announced on September 25, 2025, that it has been certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a US flag carrier, making it eligible to operate routes under bilateral aviation agreements between the United States and other countries.
Airline entrepreneur David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, welcomed the decision, which will open up a world of opportunities for the young carrier.
“Becoming a U.S. flag carrier is a huge milestone for Breeze, and one that our team members have been working tirelessly on for the last three years,” he said in a press statement announcing the airline’s new status.
Following this designation, Breeze Airways announced the launch of its first international scheduled services, to three destinations in the Caribbean basin.
Breeze Airways will commence flying in the first quarter of 2026 to Cancun, Mexico (CUN), Punta Cana (PUJ), in the Dominican Republic, and Montego Bay (MBJ), Jamaica from six airports in the United States.
The Mexican resort of Cancun will see the bulk of these new services, with new nonstop links to Charleston (CHS), South Carolina, New Orleans (MSY), Louisiana, Norfolk (ORF), Virginia, and Providence (PVD), Rhode Island.
The Jamaican city of Montego Bay is going be served from Tampa (TPA), Florida, and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), North Carolina.
The latter airport will also become Breeze’s 12th base, hosting a staff of around 200 including pilots and cabin crew. It will also see a twice-weekly service to Punta Cana.
For the time being, all these services will all be seasonal and operated during the winter months.
