Delivery of Boeing’s 777X aircraft has been delayed until early 2027 instead of next year, Bloomberg has reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
This represents a new setback for the US aircraft manufacturer, which could lead to billions in accounting charges due to the delay, according to a Bloomberg report, published on October 2, 2025.
Analysts have predicted that the non-cash charge could range from $2.5 billion to $4 billion, although Boeing itself has not specified the total cost, the report added.
However, executives have recently met with key investors and are developing a damage-control strategy, indicating that the financial impact will be distributed across the entire jet program, a source told Bloomberg.
Deutsche Lufthansa AG, the first customer for the widebody aircraft, is already preparing for this delay. One source told Bloomberg that the German airline will not include the Boeing 777X in its fleet plans until 2027.
Moreover, Emirates, the largest customer for the Boeing 777X, has also become “more cautious” regarding its entry into service, which may not happen before 2027, according to Bloomberg.

The Bloomberg report indicated that the delay in the Boeing 777X delivery is due to the company being behind schedule in certifying its 777-9 widebody aircraft, the first model of the 777X family.
During the Morgan Stanley Laguna Conference on September 11, 2025, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg revealed that the company is behind in certifying its new Boeing 777-9 widebody aircraft, the first model set for delivery from this aircraft family.
Ortberg said that no new technical problems have been found, but even a small delay in the Boeing 777X program “has a pretty big financial impact”.
Since its launch in 2013, the Boeing 777X program has faced multiple delays as the company has tried to comply with strict regulatory standards for its entry into service.
