Swiss has taken the drastic decision of grounding its entire Airbus A220-100 fleet amid ongoing engine issues with Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofans. The carrier has operated the A220 the longest as it was the launch customer for the type back in 2016, when it was still known as the Bombardier CS100. And while this segment of the fleet consists of “only” 9 aircraft, it’s more negative news for the troubled engine. source
The Trump administration may temporarily close the entire US aviation system if the current government shutdown, now in its second month, makes air travel unsafe. “If we thought that it was unsafe [to travel], we will shut the whole airspace down,” US Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy said in an interview with CNBC on November 3, 2025. “We won’t let people travel. We’re not there at this point. It’s just significant delays.” As the US government shutdown reached day 35 on November 4, 2025, air traffic issues have already caused widespread delays and cancellations at major US airports. While it is common practice in the Aviation Industry for freighter jets to remain operational much longer than passenger jets, and for passenger jets to occasionally have their lives extended by being converted to freighter jets, it is rather uncommon for a much older generation of aircraft to remain in production. The case in point, Boeing still produces the 767F aircraft at its facility in Everett, north of Seattle. While the aircraft proved popular in passenger and cargo variants, Boeing ceased production of the passenger version over a decade ago. The 767F has been superseded by newer-generation aircraft, and even…

Your eyes did not deceive you. It is true: Air Astana’s service from Almaty to London Heathrow is indeed timed up to 9h 35m. Thanks to additional fuel tanks on its Airbus A321LRs, which meant freight capacity was reduced, flights operate nonstop. It is akin to an A321XLR without being one. Air Astana is Kazakhstan’s flag carrier. According to ch-aviation, it has 11 A321LRs. Each frame has 166 seats in a two-class layout. There are 16 fully flat seats in business (2-2 and 1-1) and 150 seats in ecomomy (3-3; 33″ pitch). Air Astana From Almaty To Heathrow Credit: Flightradar24 The…
Airbreathing engines are common in the aviation industry. With the exception of electric and hybrid models, most aircraft engines use air for combustion. They mix and fuel in an enclosed space known as a combustion chamber, after which they ignite it. While some airbreathing engines are naturally aspirated, however, others leverage a supercharger or turbocharger. What Is a Supercharger? A supercharger is a type of mechanically driven compressor that forces air into a piston engine. It’s designed to compress the air before it enters the engine’s combustion chamber. By doing so, superchargers can squeeze more air into the combustion chamber,…
