Airbus designed the Airbus A350 family to cover all sorts of long-haul travel, from dynamic long-haul operations between high-capacity trunk markets to record-setting ultra-long-haul connections. There are multiple variants within the family, with the Airbus A350-900 and the Airbus A350-1000 sharing a common airframe philosophy. Both include composite structures, advanced aerodynamics, and Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, but both variants have a unique purpose that differs slightly from each other. The Airbus A350-900, for starters, is the flexible workhorse of the family, and it is a baseline long-haul platform that many airlines use as a flagship. An Airbus A350-900ULR (for ultra-long-range)…
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has lifted flight restrictions tied to the government shutdown, allowing US airports and airlines to resume normal operations after weeks of delays and reduced schedules. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford announced that the 6% traffic cut imposed in the midst of the longest-ever US government shutdown would end at 6 a.m. ET on November 17, 2025. The decision follows an FAA review of recent safety and staffing data that showed steady improvement across the air traffic control system. The FAA ordered the traffic reduction as controller staffing dropped during the prolonged shutdown. The mandate affected 40 major airports and…
In the past few days, WestJet inadvertently revealed that six additional European cities will join its map. They are Cardiff, Copenhagen, Glasgow, Lisbon, Madrid, and Ponta Delgada, of which only Glasgow has previously seen its frames. Keflavik, which is already served by the carrier, will get another route. All these places will have flights from Toronto or Halifax. It is expected that routes to these cities will be announced shortly—very likely this week, and probably on Tuesday, November 18. This includes Cardiff and Glasgow, which will be served from Toronto. Not only did WestJet accidentally reveal these cities, but Cardiff…

In my 17+ years of blogging, this is a first. And if this is all true, I certainly feel bad for the guy, as my goal is never to impact someone’s livelihood. But I’m also not sure what lesson I should take away from this? Flight attendant claims I got him fired from JetBlue Back in February, I shared my experience receiving bad service in JetBlue Mint. In the past, I’ve had nothing but praise for JetBlue’s amazing Mint flight attendants, which were somehow in a league of their own. But the flight attendant on this flight was downright unfriendly,…

France and Germany are considering scaling back the fighter aircraft component of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and concentrating their cooperation on the program’s “combat cloud” architecture, according to a report from the Financial Times. The discussions represent the most significant rethink to date of the next-generation system, originally launched to replace France’s Rafale and the Eurofighter used by Germany and Spain from around 2040. Under the scenario now being examined, the two governments could cancel the joint New Generation Fighter (NGF) and most likely substitute it with national initiatives or alternative multinational cooperations, while keeping joint work on…
There are currently widespread discussions online regarding wheelchair use at airports, due to a video that’s going viral. While I know many people think that some travelers are scamming or abusing the system, I think it’s a little more nuanced than that. The viral Air India wheelchair video at Chicago O’Hare A video on Twitter/X showing the gate area for an Air India flight out of Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD) has now been viewed close to 15 million times. The reason it’s getting so much attention is because of the massive queue of wheelchairs at the gate. Air India says…
