The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ) series has had a particularly rough streak of bad luck in 2025. The CRJ900, specifically, has had a markedly bad year in terms of mishaps, including collisions and even a flip-over on landing. Meanwhile, the tragically fatal crash of American Eagle flight 5342 was being flown on a CRJ700 when it plunged into the Potomac River. As the calendar eases through Fall, a total of 60 commercial aircraft crashes have been recorded in the United States, according to Fox News. Yesterday, we reported that United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) had outperformed analyst expectations, with strong premium growth and improved international travel demand leading the carrier’s third-quarter adjusted earnings per share (EPS) to sit modestly above Wall Street’s consensus. Under most circumstances, this would be a strong signal for the carrier, and it would incentivize investors to buy the stock and thus cause prices to go up. However, shares tumbled today, despite this impressive earnings performance. Shares slid from around $104 to as low as $94.75 by mid-afternoon, demonstrating losses of around 9%. Although a later rally led shares to close down…

An April 2025 study by an international group of researchers reported to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute that the top five military spenders in the world account for 60% of all defense spending on the planet. Those five nations, in order of biggest spender, are the United States, China, Russia, Germany, and India. Data compiled by World Population Review confirms that the USA is the undisputed world champion of air power. The global air forces’ fleet of military aircraft is constantly fluctuating. Interestingly, fleet sizes do not follow the same ranking, with Russia being ahead of China in terms…

China’s largest state-owned airlines have pushed back on a US plan to bar them from flying over Russia when traveling to or from US destinations. Six Chinese airlines have filed a complaint with the US Department Of Transportation (DOT), alleging that the proposed ban would increase ticket costs and inconvenience travelers from both countries. Last week, the US said it plans to ban Russian overflights by Chinese carrier to prevent them gaining an unfair cost advantage over American carriers, which are barred from Russian airspace. Unsurprisingly, the US airlines have come out in support of the ban, saying that it…

Delta Air Lines first used the Boeing 717 some 12 years ago, in 2013. They were opportunistically acquired from Southwest following its acquisition of AirTran. Given Southwest’s all-737 fleet, the 717 was superfluous to its single fleet requirement. According to ch-aviation, Delta still has 80 717s, which were originally marketed as the MD-95. Not all of them are active. At 24 years, they are among its oldest subfleet. Each frame has 110 seats: 12 recliner-style first seats (2-2; 37″ pitch), 20 seats in Comfort+ (2-3; 34″), and 78 in Main Cabin (2-3; 31″). It is the SkyTeam member’s second-smallest mainline…
