You will know by now that flydubai plans to operate 30 Boeing 787-9s. Its order was placed two years ago, in late 2023. It will, of course, be the growing carrier’s sole widebody variant. It will transform its network development, both in terms of its own map and also inevitably in partnership with its big brother, Emirates. You might have expected flydubai’s twin-aisle subfleet to operate in a high-capacity, two-class configuration. Not so. Its aircraft will have a three-class layout, comprising economy, premium economy, and business class, although it is not yet known how many seats will be in each…
The preowned business aircraft market continued to show strength heading into the final stretch of 2025, with demand for jets driving activity well above historical norms, according to new data released by US aviation data firm AMSTAT. The company reported that overall jet and turboprop transactions finished the third quarter 3% higher than the same period in 2024 and nearly 10% above the 10-year average. Year-to-date resale activity is running 8.7% ahead of the first three quarters of 2024 — a sign, AMSTAT said, that buyers remain active even as inventories slowly rise. Jet sales remained the core of the market’s momentum. Preowned business jet transactions increased 5.6% year over year and ended the quarter 12.4% above the…
November 27, 2025, © Leeham News: In our series about alternative propulsion aircraft, last week we looked at the electric motor of an electric aircraft, which drives propellers or fans. It’s a component that is straightforward to develop, but the certification requirements for the aircraft and VTOL industry have slowed progress. Now we look at the component that causes trouble for all alternative propulsion aircraft, except those that burn hydrogen in gas turbine engines: the batteries. Batteries work well in cars, where the requirement for energy capacity relative to weight is much lower and where energy recovery during braking reduces the energy…
You may recall a horrific train stabbing incident on November 1st in London. During this tragedy, 10 people were injured but it could have been worse if not for the actions of one Stephen Crean, who intervened. Due to his actions, Crean missed his Ryanair flight to Austria and this prompted a public appeal for the airline to issue a refund to at least reward him for his heroic efforts. Well, after Ryanair’s refusal, British Airways has stepped up to give the traveler a special trip. source

On its official website, the carrier said it aims…
US charter carrier New Pacific Airlines has ceased operations, with an internal email to the airline’s staff explaining that its suspension has been prompted by an inability to sustain economic viability amid ongoing losses. The last few years have been something of a roller coaster for the Alaskan startup, which, among other things, has had to change its name and shift from scheduled operations to charter flights in order to stay afloat. Recent developments suggested that things might be starting to look up for New Pacific Airlines. Indeed, earlier this month, it secured a partnership with a boutique carrier that…
Safran has expanded its industrial presence in India with two major agreements covering fighter-jet propulsion and the local manufacturing of air-to-ground weapons. The announcements mark yet another step in New Delhi’s push to build a sovereign aerospace and defense industry under the “Make in India” framework. Engine co-development for India’s next-gen stealth fighter The first agreement, reported by Indian Defence News, involves a full joint development program between Safran and India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to develop a new engine for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft stealth fighter. The powerplant, expected to deliver around 120 to 140 kilonewtons of…
Commercial air travel in Florida has boomed post-pandemic. It is fueled by a surge in leisure travel on both domestic and international routes, as well as by a fast-growing state economy with strong net migration to what is already the third-most populous state in the nation. According to Cirium, Florida air traffic has grown by more than double the US average over the past five years, and today, one in every five US airline seats touches the Sunshine State. What is interesting is that nearly 95% of commercial traffic in Florida passes through its seven largest airports. Collectively, they are…

Cargo carrier Western Global Airlines (WGA) has reportedly furloughed pilots due to the extended grounding of its McDonnell Douglas MD-11 fleet. The news follows the UPS Airlines MD-11 accident on November 4, 2025, which resulted in the FAA grounding the aircraft type. The carrier informed its pilots via email that it hoped the MD-11 grounding would be short-lived, as the aircraft type represents the largest portion of its overall fleet. However, Boeing has advised that more extensive and highly invasive inspections are required. The furloughs became effective on November 22, 2025. An internal memo announcing the pilot furloughs was first…
