What are the largest air forces in the world by budget? Short answer: no one really knows. No matter the criteria used, it is clear that the United States Air Force has the world’s largest such budget, but beyond that, it gets murky. Many countries, like the UK, China, and Russia, do not provide breakdowns in their military budgets for how much is spent specifically on the air force. Other big issues include converting currencies, and the different expenses are included or excluded between air force budgets. For example, the US Air Force budget includes nuclear expenses. One problem particularly…
Hollywood star John Travolta is as well known for his love of aviation as he is for his movies. Always an avid flyer, he took his first flying lesson at 15 and received his pilot’s license by the age of 22. He has a large collection of aircraft, but recently flew to the Paris Olympics with his daughter on one of their private jets, the Falcon 900. Let’s find out more about the aircraft. I can’t say that I’m surprised, and if anything, it’s impressive that things lasted as long as they did… New Pacific Airlines (formerly known as Northern Pacific Airways) will be shutting down. View from the Wing shares the note from CEO Thomas Hsieh, who says “it is with a heavy heart that I’m announcing that we will be ceasing operations today,” and that “unfortunately, we are unable to continue to fund the losses in our business.” He tells employees he’s “extremely proud of you and everything we have accomplished as New Pacific/Ravn Alaska,” and “thank you for your hard work,…
Unfortunately it’s really common to see hotel openings delayed. It’s such a consistent problem in the industry, and it seems like hotels start accepting reservations based on a best case scenario timeline, when that’s rarely how things play out. Well, the highly anticipated new Park Hyatt Los Cabos might be in a league of its own when it comes to what a poor job it’s doing with managing the opening timeline… Park Hyatt Los Cabos keeps delaying opening, days out The Park Hyatt Los Cabos, Mexico, was supposed to open over the summer. Since then, we’ve seen the opening timeline…
Traveling in economy class is not a joy for many of us. With airlines reducing weight and adding more seats, traveling in economy class has become more uncomfortable with less legroom and personal space. Japan Airlines, from a passenger experience perspective, has always been seen as one of the best airlines in the world. If flying to Japan, it is well worth considering using Japan Airlines, as its economy class seat is far superior to its competitors. Indeed, Japan Airlines won the title of the World’s Best Economy Seat at the SKYTRAX World Airline Awards in 2025. The airline also…
Following reports about the cancellation of a landing aid for the SRVL technique on HMS Queen Elizabeth, a Govt minister has clarified that, though timelines have shifted, rolling landings are still planned. In early November, the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) released its 2024/2025 Annual Report and Accounts. Among the 256 pages, one table lists all of the individual losses valued at over £300,000 made through the year. Included is the tragic loss of a Merlin HC4 in September 2024, resulting in the death of a Royal Navy pilot, as well as the writing off of a Litening targeting pod…
We’re used to the concept of hotels charging aggressive “destination fees” or “resort fees,” in an effort to maximize revenue. In Las Vegas, you’ll even see some properties with resort fees that are higher than the room rate. However, I’ve never seen anything quite like what’s going on in Chicago, as flagged by View from the Wing. The Chicago Hotel Collection’s strange room ratesThe Chicago Hotel Collection is a collection of four otherwise independent hotels in Chicago. The company’s website is quite interesting. For example, if you quickly just scroll through the homepage, you might assume that the hotels have…
Southwest is the US’s fourth-largest operator by passengers. However, as the US Department of Transportation shows that 98% of its traffic is domestic, it is the nation’s third-largest domestic carrier. Southwest carried one in five of all passengers who flew within the country. In the 12 months to August 2025, the DOT shows that Southwest filled 77.8% of its available seats. This was obviously disproportionately driven by its enormous dominance domestically. Indeed, it filled 83% of its international capacity. Southwest’s Routes With The Lowest Loads Credit: GCMap Analysis of all the airline’s network between September 2024 and August 2025 shows that…
