Announced this Tuesday, on November 25, Republic Airways and Mesa Airlines completed a merger that saw Republic become the United States’ and the world’s largest operator of Embraer E-Jet aircraft. The fleet total now comes to 310 regional jets that will service roughly 1,300 daily departures. Republic is continuing to support American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines while integrating the Mesa operations under United in a new 10-year contract. The capacity purchase agreement integrates the two operations, which will gradually transition to a single organization. By powering both the Airbus A220 and the Embraer E-Jet E2 families, the Pratt & Whitney GTF dominates the 100-150 seat class of regional jets. The engine is much more efficient than the engines it replaces, including the Rolls-Royce BR700 found on the Boeing 717. Until now, the engine had proven reasonably reliable, although issues are now emerging. Still, the fuel-efficient engine has had a significant positive effect on regional air travel. Bombardier developed the Airbus A220 as the CSeries as a regional airliner. The aircraft directly competes with the Embraer E-Jet series, with which it shares a common engine…
On November 26, an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 operating a flight from Miami to El Salvador diverted to Belize after smoke was reported in the rear of the cabin. The crew first detected a strange odor and light vibrations, and later shut down one of the engine before diverting to Belize City, as reported by The Aviation Herald. The aircraft landed safely, and emergency services were mobilized on arrival, although they were not needed. The aircraft involved is one of the oldest 737-800s in American’s fleet, and it has not operated any flights since the diversion. Authorities are currently investigating…
A Southwest Airlines passenger at San Diego International Airport has taken to social media to vent her upset at the world’s largest low-cost carrier, after her service dog was barred from a flight. The passenger, known as Erinn Hoyt, suffers from cystic fibrosis, diabetes and has undergone a double lung transplant. The airline is alleged to have barred the service dog from the flight, due to reports of it defecating at the service desk; however, there has been no evidence or video footage that supported this claim, and Hoyt has accused the Dallas-based airline of ‘gaslighting’ her. Your Dog Defecated…

While today’s aviation sector is one of considerable modernity, we would be nowhere without the decades of history that have elapsed to get us to this point, and the various social and technological advances that they have brought. As it happens, some airlines around the world that are still active today have been around long enough to witness these changes for themselves. In this article, we will take a closer look at the life and times of the oldest airlines around the world today that operate under their original names. While, in some instances, there are older carriers out there…
On November 26, 2025, an American Eagle flight was forced to perform an evacuation before its takeoff at Philadelphia International Airport. As reported by NBC Philadelphia, the aircraft was a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet operating for American Eagle and was taxiing for its departure to Savannah when a mechanical issue led the crew to perform an evacuation. All passengers and crew disembarked the aircraft safely and were later reaccommodated onto a replacement aircraft. The aircraft involved was sent into maintenance. While the incident led to no injuries, it comes just a few weeks after the fatal crash of a UPS…
The Nordic flight market has experienced significant growth in recent years. According to Statista, revenues in the region are projected to grow by 5% year on year and hit US$8.93 billion in 2025 and over 10 million users by 2030. Yet, behind those numbers lies one of aviation’s toughest operating environments, where extreme weather, high expenses, and brief peak seasons put every business model to the test. In response, Nordic airlines have adopted low-cost business strategies to maintain year-round operations. While this model helps carriers survive in one of the most difficult markets in the world, some examples show why some carriers fail to meet the challenges of the Nordic airline market. Here, AeroTime explores Nordic region airlines and their strategies for surviving in…
General Electric is currently developing the largest turbofan engine ever to be used in commercial aviation. The GE9X is being made to power the Boeing 777X next generation widebody airliner, as the enormous engine will be installed on the world’s single largest twinjet to ever fly. Therefore, its test bed needs to be equally huge. That’s where the Boeing 747 comes in. The colossal engine is being constructed using innovative manufacturing methods like 3D printing to make it not only the most powerful engine ever installed on a jetliner but also the most fuel-efficient. The GE9X will take commercial turbofan…
United Airlines Flight 934, a Boeing 767-300ER service bound for London Heathrow Airport (LHR), made a precautionary U-turn on November 27, 2025, after the crew encountered airspeed indication problems. The aircraft climbed to cruising altitude near Boston before diverting back to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), where it safely landed on Runway 22L roughly 80 minutes after departure. Flight tracking records show that the flight was scheduled for an 8:25 AM departure but took off at roughly 8:34 AM before returning to Newark instead of following a pre-planned course across the Atlantic. This indicates that something happened that prevented the…
