Air Peace is Nigeria’s largest airline. Nearly all of its flights are within West Africa and to London, which now includes Heathrow. Yet, it has some highly unusual services. For a limited time in December, it has multi-stop Boeing 777 flights from Nigeria and Ghana to the Caribbean. It’d be easy to conclude that this head-scratching operation is akin to many network decisions made by African airlines, which are not expected to make money. Examples abound of where they make decisions that fly in the face of sense. However, Air Peace’s Caribbean operations are somewhat different, as it is working…
American Airlines revealed it is in discussions with Amazon about using the company’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network to provide in-flight Wi-Fi. CEO Robert Isom said in an interview with Bloomberg the talks center on Amazon Leo, the satellite-internet constellation formerly known as Project Kuiper. The new Amazon service aims to compete directly with market entrants such as Starlink as airlines push for faster and more reliable onboard connectivity. “We’re making sure that American is going to have what our customers need,” Isom told Bloomberg. He did not comment on how far along the negotiations are or whether the airline is close to selecting Amazon…
Two aircraft came within seconds of a mid-air collision, the New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) has found. This near-miss involved two aircraft: an Air New Zealand Q-300 and a Beech Duchess, both operated by a local flying school. The commission noted that the near-miss came down to several failures in the way the airspace in this South Pacific country is managed. The close call occurred in the skies above the Northland city of Whangarei Airport, where the airspace has not been reviewed in more than a decade. JetBlue is opening its first-ever airport lounge called BlueHouse at New York’s John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) Terminal 5. The lounge will officially open at 5am ET on December 18, 2025, offering a more premium pre-flight experience. BlueHouse is designed to feel like a home-style environment for JetBlue’s most loyal customers and premium travelers. The move marks a major step in JetBlue’s strategy to enhance airport hospitality and customer satisfaction. This lounge launch is part of JetBlue’s broader JetForward premium travel strategy, which aims to expand benefits beyond the aircraft to the airport experience. The 9,000-square-foot BlueHouse blends local New…
In the past few years, the opportunities to fly on jumbo jets or quadjets have significantly decreased, especially since the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020, which saw a lot of airlines phase out these aircraft, one of which happened to be the world’s largest passenger jet, the Airbus A380. While the industry has recovered since then, the number of these aircraft that were returned to service around the world was fewer than before, and based on the trends from the past few years, it is clear that the A380 is on its way out. So, for people who love the A380,…
EVIO, a little-known hybrid-electric aircraft developer backed by Boeing, stepped into the spotlight on December 11, 2025, with the public launch of its EVIO 810 regional airliner and a claim of 450 conditional purchase agreements. The clean-sheet aircraft, a 76-seat hybrid-electric design, is aimed at the 50- to 100-seat market and is planned to enter service in the early 2030s. The company has been working on the design for several years but had operated largely under the radar until now. EVIO said it secured two major airline customers in 2023 that signed conditional agreements for a combined 250 aircraft, along with options for another 200 units. EVIO has not disclosed the buyers,…
While reports have identified the Jiutian as a “general-purpose drone,” concepts have shown it releasing drone swarms with a range of surface and maritime strike munitions. A massive drone-carrying mothership developed by China’s Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), called Jiutian, flew for the first time on Dec. 11, 2025, from Pucheng, in northwestern China’s Shaanxi Province. Notably, the drone has a 6 ton payload capacity for either munitions, drone swarms and humanitarian relief material. A concept video on CCTV 14 from May 2025 shows a group of Jiutians releasing swarms of hundreds of smart quadcopter-like systems and other winged…
We’re currently seeing a bit of an inflight connectivity revolution, as airlines increasingly roll out Starlink Wi-Fi. Not only is this consistently free for passengers, but it also means that Wi-Fi can be enjoyed at speeds that are similar to what you’ll experience on the ground. Broadly speaking, this is fantastic news, because what’s not to love about fast and free connectivity? However, I am increasingly seeing complaints about the service, including from people who don’t even use it. Issues seem particularly rampant on one airline… Is Starlink Wi-Fi ruining the “quiet cabin” concept? Qatar Airways is one of the…
2026 will mark Lufthansa’s centenary year, and the German flag carrier has a diverse range of initiatives planned in order to help it celebrate its 100th anniversary with the rest of the aviation world. Arguably the most notable of these is a special centenary livery, which was first revealed on a Boeing 787. Flight tracking data suggests that the aircraft in question, a 787-9 Dreamliner that bears the registration D-ABPU, is preparing for its delivery to the Star Alliance founding member, with the jet having made multiple test flights this month. Let’s take a closer look at when and where…
