A skydiver in Queensland, Australia, survived a terrifying midair emergency after his reserve parachute deployed prematurely and left the man dangling from the tail of a Cessna 208 at 15,000 feet, according to a report released on December 11, 2025, by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. The incident, which occurred on September 20 and was captured in dramatic onboard video, involved a group of 16 parachutists planning to jump in formation. Investigators said the first skydiver moving toward the door had the handle of his reserve parachute catch on a flap on the aircraft’s left wing. The accidental deployment knocked another parachutist into free fall and then pulled…
At first glance, the Boeing 777X looks strikingly similar to its predecessor, with a familiar fuselage and cockpit design. However, a closer look reveals one of its most innovative features: folding wingtips. This unique system allows the aircraft’s massive wings to adjust their span depending on whether the plane is on the ground or in the air, combining cutting-edge aerodynamics with practical airport compatibility. By folding upward while on the ground and extending during flight, the 777X can achieve unprecedented fuel efficiency and lift without exceeding the limits of existing airport gates and taxiways. The folding wingtips are more than…

San Francisco has become one of the major international gateways in the United States, with well-established links for long-haul travel across the Atlantic. The airport opened in the 1920s as Mills Field Municipal Airport of San Francisco, and transatlantic services started later in the 1950s. Trans World Airlines (TWA) was the first airline to launch European flights, beginning service to London and Paris in 1957. Lufthansa followed soon after and became the first European carrier to operate scheduled service from Europe to the West Coast city. From there, the market continued to expand. More airlines entered, new routes were added,…

On the eve of the Thanksgiving travel rush, Airbus and the aviation industry averted a potentially massive global crisis by combining swift, decisive action with massively coordinated technical efforts. On November 28, the widespread nature of the software defect in Airbus’ A320 family of jetliners was revealed, as CEO Guillaume Faury publicly apologized and announced the repair effort. The aircraft’s Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC) system failed due to data corruption caused by intense solar radiation, resulting in the incident. The aircraft suffered an uncommanded loss of altitude, necessitating an emergency diversion and injuring passengers. For about 6,000 aircraft, Airbus…
The pilots of US-based air carrier Spirit Airlines have voted to ratify a restructuring agreement that trades short-term pain for the possibility of long-term survival. This deal, which was negotiated by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) during Spirit’s second Chapter 11 filing in a year, delivers temporary pay and retirement cuts while preserving the airline’s core scheduling and quality-of-life rules. In return, Spirit can gain the labor stability and cost savings that it needs in order to unlock key bankruptcy financing and reassure creditors that the ultra-low-cost carrier still has a fairly credible path forward. This vote does not…
