We could see that the useful range for this aircraft was short, even when using the full 19,000lb Maximum TakeOff Weight (MTOW) to give the battery the maximum size and using VFR flight rules. Under IFR flight rules, the commuter was not usable with available batteries this side of 2030. Figure 1. Our battery-electric commuter was similar…
The United States government has admitted to failures that led to a deadly midair collision between a Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and an American Eagle Bombardier CRJ700, killing all 67 people on board. The collision occurred on January 29, 2025, near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). In a court filing released by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and reviewed by NBC News, the US government said that it “admits that it owed a duty of care to Plaintiffs, which it breached, thereby proximately causing the tragic accident.” The liability admission was submitted in response to lawsuits brought…
It has been 30 years since the Boeing 777 made its entry into service with launch customer United Airlines, marking the operational beginning of one of the most celebrated and successful widebody aircraft programs of all time. Since then, the 777 has served nearly four billion passengers, with Boeing delivering over 1,750 777 aircraft to almost 100 customers around the globe. It won’t be too long before the next generation of the 777 family — the Boeing 777X — makes its debut, with the planemaker expecting the upcoming widebody to enter service in 2027. To mark the 777’s 30th anniversary,…
The Boeing 737 MAX is the latest stage in the continuous development of the 737 family, an aircraft line that has shaped short and medium-haul flying for more than half a century. While the MAX and its predecessor, the 737 Next Generation (737NG), share a familiar outline, the newer variant incorporates major aerodynamic, structural, and systems upgrades. Among the most consequential is its increased range. Airlines often describe this improvement as one of the MAX program’s defining advantages because it expands the number of viable city pairs and improves fuel planning flexibility on existing routes. Understanding how much additional range…
It goes without saying that aircraft maintenance is crucial not only for the efficient performance of modern commercial and jet liners, but most importantly – safety of flight. Airbus just published a case study with recommendations to all operators that overlooking proper care of wheel bearings can have disastrous consequences. Airbus emphasizes that improper maintenance can lead to severe part failures, including fire and the loss of an entire wheel and tire assembly during takeoff or landing. The event that inspired the maker’s notice to operators was an aborted takeoff in Brussels that left debris strewn all across the airfield.…
American Airlines has announced that it will be renovating its Admirals Club at Washington Ronald Reagan National Airport. Beginning in early 2026, the Admirals Club located in Concourse D will close for a full renovation. The Admirals Club in Concourse D is one of three that American Airlines operates at Washington-National, with the other two being located in Concourse C and Concourse E. This will also be the second newly refurbished…
The iconic North American P-51 Mustang turned the tide of the air campaign in World War II in the allies’ favor. According to the Military Aviation Museum, a total of 15,586 P-51 Mustangs were built from the start of production in 1941 until the end in 1946, with the final model, the P-51H. That didn’t mean the mighty Mustang was out of action, far from it. The most famed and combat-effective P-51 model proved to be the P-51D, of which over 8,000 examples were produced, according to the Commemorative Air Force. The P-51 was instrumental in not only achieving victory…

The US Air Force said it is acquiring two additional Boeing 747-8 aircraft for approximately $400 million to support training and sustainment for the future presidential airlift fleet, as delays continue to push back delivery of the next-generation Air Force One aircraft. The service said the aircraft will be used to establish a training, test, and sustainment program for the VC-25B fleet, the designation for the next-generation Air Force One aircraft based on the Boeing 747-8. The purchase was announced by the Air Force on December 16, 2025, and comes as the program remains several years behind its original schedule. The Air Force currently operates two VC-25A aircraft, modified Boeing 747-200s that have been in service since the early 1990s. The replacement program,…
