In 2025, the U.S. Navy marks 250 years of protecting the American people, defending our values and enabling our prosperity. From the age of sail to an era of nuclear propulsion, long-range strike and undersea dominance, our Navy has been the decisive instrument that keeps danger far from our shores and opportunity close at hand. But as we commemorate this legacy, we must also confront a strategic environment unlike any we have faced in generations. For decades, American naval supremacy has been assumed. Today, that margin is narrowing. Our adversaries are building vessels explicitly designed to contest our ability to project…

While business class or first class are the exciting premium cabins with elaborate, innovative designs and luxurious features, economy class is how most people fly. On most airlines, economy seats are largely the same, with differences coming in visual design, whether a screen is present, legroom, and width, as well as headrest functionality. Most differences between the world’s top airlines come from onboard service, rather than the seat. However, the world’s very best airlines do make use of various seat qualities to offer the world’s most comfortable economy seats. Not surprisingly, all of these airlines are located in Asia, given…

Artificial Intelligence (AI), large market models (LMM) and big data have all become buzzwords, making an appearance in most conversations about business.   However, practical, quantifiable examples of real-world applications are harder to come by. It doesn’t matter how much space companies devote to talking about AI in their annual reports and strategic plans. The sad reality is that most AI projects, in fact, fail to leave the pilot stage or don’t integrate with the business mainframe.   Perhaps not unsurprisingly, given the industry’s track record in early technology adoption, it was an airline that provided one of the earliest cases of success and, what’s more, has chosen to showcase this success as a case study for the industry  The collaboration between tech startup Fetcherr and Brazilian airline Azul is the rare exception that proves…

In May 2023, plans were announced for a new full service Hyatt property to open in Frankfurt, Germany, which I’ve been quite excited about, as I travel through Frankfurt quite a bit. Unfortunately the opening of this property has been pushed back several times. So there’s finally some good news, as the hotel appears to finally be opening imminently. Kennedy 89, a new Hyatt Unbound Collection property Kennedy 89 Frankfurt is accepting reservations for stays as of January 11, 2026, though the hotel’s website suggests it’s opening as of today (December 18, 2025). I’d assume that it really only opens…

Usually, airlines give a few months’ notice between announcing a route and the first flight. That makes a lot of sense, as time is needed to drive awareness and bookings. Some airlines have a huge amount of lead time. For example, Finnair has announced Melbourne flights ten months in advance. Not so Oman Air on its brand-new fifth freedom route to Europe, which will use the Boeing 737 MAX 8. While it has been scheduled for a week or so now, its upcoming Muscat to Copenhagen via Baghdad flights were only officially announced on December 17. But the first departure…

KYIV, Ukraine — “The problem with this round of negotiations is that they lack all credibility,” one senior European diplomat with knowledge of the peace process told Military Times this week. “It’s just stupid.”The exasperation of the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss negotiations that are sensitive and ongoing, comes after weeks of what he described as an “endlessly frustrating” peace push — built around damage control, public pressure and shifting drafts — that has forced Ukraine and its European backers to “pretend to play along” even as demands circulated that are “impossible for Ukraine to accept.”“There is no…

As consumers, we’re bombarded with emails and push notifications from companies requesting feedback. Whether it’s a pizza order, an Uber ride, a flight, a hotel stay, or a phone call with a customer service representative, the requests for feedback are endless. For the most part, I don’t fill out these surveys, simply because that could be a full time job, in and of itself. However, I make a point of filling our surveys that I receive from airlines when I think there’s value to it, so I’d like to talk about that a bit in this post. I’m also curious…
