The U.S. Army is looking to have autonomous airborne drones and ground robots clean up chemical and biological weapons. The Autonomous Decontamination System, or ADS, would scrub vehicles, critical infrastructure and key terrain. Equally important, it would allow troops in the field to protect themselves and thus ease the strain on Army chemical warfare units that might not be available when needed. “The goal of the ADS is to allow squad-sized elements to provide a platoon-sized decontamination capability for critical mission equipment,” according to an Army Request for Information, which is due Feb. 20. “Contamination mitigation operations are extremely resource-intensive…
NASA has delayed the launch of its Artemis II mission, pushing the first crewed flight of the Space Launch System and Orion spacecraft to March 2026 at the earliest after engineers encountered technical issues during a critical prelaunch test. The agency said the decision followed problems uncovered during a “wet dress rehearsal” at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, an hours-long simulation designed to replicate launch day conditions. During the test, engineers detected liquid hydrogen leaks near the base of the Space Launch System rocket, forcing NASA to halt the countdown just minutes before a planned simulated liftoff. As a result, NASA said it…
From SnF 2023 (YouTube Edition): Less is More; More is More CubCrafters has introduced a new iteration of its best-selling Carbon Cub aircraft. Dubbed the Carbon Cub UL, the new machine is intended primarily for international markets in which conventional avgas, the likes of 100LL, is difficult or impossible to come by. To achieve its goal of making the Carbon Cub UL contemporaneously avgas and mogas compatible—as well as even lighter and better-performing than its Carbon Cub SS predecessor—CubCrafters invested significantly in new technologies. The end result is an aircraft that complies fully with rigorous American Society of Testing and…

The first part of the video discusses the operational requirements of the zeppelin, and you’ll probably hear things that you have never thought of before. Hissem formats his discussion by describing his trip from…
“The mission profile is to climb to the prescribed altitude within the defined operating range … and then loiter in a mission-racetrack pattern… The plane should be capable of 450 knots sustained speed at 51,000 feet, and have the ‘ability to self-deploy with a range of 6,000 nautical miles.’” Source: A part of a proposal in which the U.S. Army wants to buy up to 11 customized Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft for its High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System, or HADES, program.

Cirrus Aircraft on February 3, 2026, introduced the Vision Jet G3, the third generation of its single-engine jet, adding seating capacity, avionics upgrades, and a reworked cabin as the company looks to broaden the aircraft’s appeal among business owners and charter operators. Cirrus said deliveries of the G3 are already underway. The new version builds on the Vision Jet G2+ platform rather than changing performance fundamentals, focusing instead on usability, comfort, and digital integration. More than 700 Vision Jets have been delivered since the aircraft entered service in 2016, making it among the best-selling jets in general aviation. The most visible change is inside the cabin. The G3 introduces a…
The single most in-demand “asset” on an airplane is personal space, and there are all kinds of methods people use to try to maximize the amount of space they have. That includes trying to use strategies to maximize the odds of having an empty seat next to you. An OMAAT reader asked me a question specifically about the concept of booking an aisle and window seat (in planes with clusters of three seats), and hoping the middle seat stays empty. I’d like to address that more broadly — is that a smart strategy? What are the odds of it actually…
