In the ever-evolving landscape of commercial aviation, few aircraft have left as indelible a mark as the Boeing 757. Known for its versatility, performance, and reliability, the 757 has been a workhorse for major carriers since its introduction in the early 1980s. For Delta Air Lines, the 757 remains a cornerstone of its fleet, having served as a true domestic workhorse and an unexpected transatlantic champion for decades. But the 757 is no spring chicken, and many carriers have long since retired the aging twinjet. Yet Delta has remained its staunchest supporter, operating the largest fleet of 757s in the…
The Pentagon failed its financial audit for the eighth consecutive year, the Defense Department said Friday, highlighting the ongoing systemic challenge the nation’s largest federal agency faces in fully accounting for its assets. The department has received a failing grade on every audit since Congress mandated annual reviews beginning in 2018, and is the only one of the government’s 24 major agencies never to pass. In the Department of Defense Agency Financial Report for fiscal year 2025, auditors identified 26 material weaknesses and two significant deficiencies in the department’s financial reporting. Among the shortcomings were omissions in the Joint Strike…

Bombardier’s Global 8000 ultra-long-range (and ultra-fast) business twinjet has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification, formally clearing the way for customer deliveries in the US, the world’s biggest market for business aviation. The approval, announced on December 19, 2025, marks a significant milestone for Bombardier’s flagship model, which entered service earlier this month following Transport Canada type certification on November 5. Certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency remains pending. With a top speed of Mach 0.95, the Global 8000 is now the fastest civil aircraft to enter service since the retirement of Concorde in 2003. It also offers a range of 8,000 nautical miles, allowing nonstop flights between more city pairs…

The Airbus A350-1000 is widely regarded as one of the most fuel-efficient large twin-aisle airliners ever built, and for good reason, which we will describe later. Airlines operating this type routinely report lower-than-forecast operating costs and unusually lean fuel profiles on even the longest sectors. We will explain precisely why the -1000 variant delivers that performance: an integrated set of design choices, such as aerodynamics, structure, engines, and modern systems, that work together to minimize fuel burned per flight and per seat. This matters because airlines don’t buy aircraft just for the sake of having these aircraft — they buy…
The X-62 Variable Stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft will incorporate advanced radar and sensor integration to allow autonomy testing in more complex scenarios. The U.S. Air Force has announced the start of an upgrade program for the X-62 Variable Stability In-flight Simulator Test Aircraft (VISTA). The program, described as a Mission Systems Upgrade (MSU), is part of a strategic investment from the Test Resource Management Center (TRMC), which will allow the platform to expand autonomy testing in more complex scenarios. As we previously reported here at The Aviationist, the X-62 is currently being employed to support testing of artificial intelligence…
Loyalty program fraud is a major issue, and it can come in many forms, including having miles stolen. That brings us to a very amusing interaction taking place on social media, and I know who I’m siding with… Influencer confronts person over stolen points Becca Alves, who goes by the username Petitevagabond across social media platforms, covers a lot of points topics. Dubai-based UAE flag carrier Emirates is known the world over for being the largest operator of the Airbus A380, with well over 100 examples of the double-decker quadjet at its disposal. The oldest of these, A6-EDF, is some 19.84 years old according to ch-aviation, with data from Flightradar24 showing that, in recent days, Emirates has flown it on round trips from Dubai (DXB) to Amsterdam (AMS), London Heathrow (LHR), and Paris (CDG). However, while Emirates is the dominant of the Airbus A380 in the current climate, there are plenty of other carriers that rely on the superjumbo to a lesser…
