Why do some airlines call themselves “airlines” (or “air lines”) while others call themselves “airways,” and still others call themselves “air”? To some degree, the names reflect different ways of conceptualizing the revolutionary new mode of travel in the skies. At the end of the day, what an airline calls itself is mostly a marketing decision, and these names don’t actually differentiate airline business models or services. While most modern airlines use the terms airlines, airways, or air, there are many more. Some airlines have names in the languages of their own countries (like Aer Lingus), while others have adopted…
The Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A330-900 have become two of the most popular next-generation widebodies, each offering airlines impressive range, fuel efficiency, and long-haul flexibility. While the 787-9 helped redefine ultra-long-range travel with its advanced composite design, the A330-900 builds on a proven platform with modern engines and aerodynamics. Together, they represent two different approaches to efficient long-haul flying, both shaping how airlines plan their global networks today. In this article, we will take a closer look at the range capabilities of both the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A330-900. We will also consider the role that each aircraft plays in…
China’s PLA launched “Justice Mission 2025” snap drills around Taiwan, combining blockade simulations, live-fire drills, and strategic messaging aimed at Taipei and Washington. China has launched a large-scale, snap military exercise around Taiwan, dubbed “Justice Mission 2025,” on Dec. 29, 2025. The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) deployed air, naval, rocket, and coast guard forces in a show of force that includes simulated blockade operations and live-fire drills in multiple locations around the island. The drills represent the latest escalation in China’s sustained pressure campaign against Taipei and come amid renewed tensions with the United States over the latest arms sales…
American Airlines is entering a new phase of long-haul flying with the introduction of its latest premium Boeing 787-9 aircraft, marking one of the most significant cabin overhauls in the carrier’s recent history. Designed around the new Flagship Suite concept, the aircraft promises a more private, technologically advanced, and passenger-focused experience across all cabins, not just at the front of the plane. The airline’s aim is to redefine the passenger experience on all flights and match current offerings from other major airlines. As competition intensifies among US airlines in the premium long-haul market, American’s new 787-9 plays a critical role…
The French government is acquiring two Saab GlobalEye platforms, with an option for two more, to maintain a credible and deterrent airborne radar capability. Saab announced on Dec. 30, 2025, that it has been formally contracted by the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (Directorate General of Armaments – DGA) for the procurement of two GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. The development follows a Jun. 18, 2025, Letter of Intent (LoI)…
As the nation where man first took flight under mechanical power, the US remains a world leader in the global aerospace market. The iconic planemaker Boeing continues to reign as one of the two great juggernauts in the world of aircraft building. Its legacy and continued prominence at the forefront of commercial airliner construction have yielded some of the most famous jetliners in history, like the 707, 737, and 747 “jumbo jet.” It has also produced some of the most expensive airplanes ever made. In this review, we will go down the list of the seven most expensive airliners ever…
Five cargo airlines entered the widebody-freighter market in 2025 amid dramatic, geopolitical shifts that affected trade flows. Even with a shortage of available aircraft in the widebody market and ongoing capacity constraints — exacerbated by the grounding of approximately sixty MD-11Fs — new market entrants were able to add 747, 767 and A330 freighters to […] source
For the return portion of our Good Morning Milan, Goodnight Moon trip, my dad and I flew Lufthansa first class from Frankfurt (FRA) to Boston (BOS). Arguably the best part of the experience is being able to use the Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt (FCT), so that you can skip the main terminal altogether. While in the FCT, we witnessed an interaction that couldn’t help but make me shake my head, particularly for a frequent flyer… Lufthansa passenger furious after learning about misconnect The Lufthansa First Class Terminal has little seating “clusters,” and my dad and I were visiting mid-morning, when the…
Many airlines fly transatlantic routes, and even Singapore Airlines is technically a transatlantic airline as it operates a flight from Frankfurt to New York-JFK. This list will consider seven of the leading transatlantic mainline carriers: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa, and Air France. Flights between North America and Europe are generally classed as long-haul flights, although they are not as long as those across the Pacific. The article will also consider the premium economy seats on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners except for Delta, which doesn’t operate the type. Overall, there is not much difference…
A drunk traveler at Perth International Airport now awaits a court hearing after allegedly breaching security and breaking a window before walking out onto the airport tarmac. On Tuesday, December 30, the Australian Federal Police were called to the airport after it was alleged that the New Zealand traveler became intoxicated and was denied boarding. Following being denied entry for his flight, he took evasive action by activating the ‘break glass alarm’, pushing past airline staff, and gaining access to the airport tarmac. Following this, he then started to walk towards an aircraft. The 25-year-old male was subsequently arrested and…
