The Navy has launched a Programmed Structural Sustainment Repair program for the dozens of F-16s acquired from the Air Force, which will allow them to fly through 2035. The U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announced last week two major milestones with its ex-U.S. Air Force F-16 jets used in the Adversary role. The Adversary and Specialized Aircraft Program Office (PMA-226) and Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW) said they completed the “first-ever Programmed Structural Sustainment Repair (PSSR)” on a U.S. Navy F-16C Viper this month, delivering the aircraft “eight months early.” This milestone followed FRCSW and PMA-226 setting up a…
The general aviation industry closed 2025 with record billings as business jet shipments climbed to new heights. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) used its annual State of the Industry press conference in Washington, D.C., to release its 2025 Aircraft Shipment and Billing Report, saying preliminary aircraft deliveries for the year totaled $35.7 billion, up 14.6% from 2024. “The state of the general aviation manufacturing industry remains steadfast,” said GAMA President and CEO James Viola, pointing to annual billings he described as “the highest it has ever been.” Viola also noted that even where deliveries slipped for some segments, all remained above 2019 levels. Total airplane shipments rose 2.2% year over year, from 3,162 aircraft in 2024…
Claims about modifying the F-35’s software raise legitimate sovereignty questions. But cybersecurity architecture, cryptography, and sustainment realities define strict limits on what can and cannot be done. As we reported in detail in a previous story, on Feb. 15, 2026, talking to the BNR Nieuwsradio Podcast, Dutch State Secretary for Defence Gijs Tuinman suggested that the F-35’s software could theoretically be “jailbroken,” drawing a comparison with modifying an iPhone. “I’m going to say something I should never say, but I’ll do it anyway. Just like your iPhone, you can jailbreak an F-35. I won’t say more about it.” Needless…
Pilot Town Hall Members Wanted Answers About Pleasance’s Removal, Board Plans The two newest Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association (AOPA) board members addressed the issue of the dismissal of former AOPA President and CEO Darren Pleasance at an overflow pilot town hall meeting at the Buckeye Air Fair and AOPA Fly-In Saturday. Many members said they were upset and angry about the termination and wanted to know why. Charlie Lynch and Dale Klapmeier (who is taken not yet a board member), presented as the two newest board members, opened their portion of the town hall with their backgrounds as pilots…

“The path to a 30% total mishap reduction requires consistent, incremental improvement in the adherence of our standards. Starting in FY26, we will target a 50% reduction in the total number of procedural noncompliance mishaps year-over-year to achieve a 45 total mishap reduction by 2028.” Source: Quoted from the Marine Corps 2026 Aviation Plan published on February 10, confirming a future centered on fleet shifts, broad modernization, and safety touch-ups. At the center of the plan, like it or not, is aggressive integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
From SnF 2024 (YouTube Edition): Doug Rozendaal Explains The History of The Historic Replica Doug Rozendaal took a moment out of his busy Sun ‘n Fun experience to talk about the charm of Mister Mulligan, his classic Howard DGA-6. Rozendaal’s aircraft isn’t the original one-off, purpose-built race plane, of course, but actually a very convincing replica of the storied aircraft. The design hails back to the golden age of racing, when the 30’s economy wrought havoc on budgets around the globe. The DGA-6 design was meant to show just how far aerodynamics and engines had come at the time, and…

Spirit Airlines has asked a New York bankruptcy court to approve a plan to auction 20 Airbus jets in a court-supervised process that would set a floor price at $533.5 million and could lead to the start of a formal bidding process in April 2026 if would-be buyers emerge. The carrier, operating under Chapter 11 protection, said the sale would help it shrink its fleet, cut costs tied to aircraft it no longer needs, and strengthen its financial position as it works through its restructuring. Spirit’s proposed sale covers 13 A320 aircraft and seven A321 aircraft. The airline identified CSDS Asset Management LLC as the “stalking horse bidder,” a common bankruptcy tool that establishes a baseline offer and…
Not all flights go as planned, and sometimes issues arise, necessitating a diversion. Once in a while we’ll see a “flight to nowhere,” whereby a plane has to return to its origin. However, this has to be one of the most extreme versions of this that I’ve seen. ANA 787 ends up where it started after 14 hoursThis incident happened on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and involves All Nippon Airways flight NH223, scheduled to complete the journey from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Frankfurt (FRA). The flight was operated by a 10-year-old Boeing 787-9 with the registration code JA875A, and there…
