I think it’s fantastic when airlines have goals, and want to invest in their passenger experience. However, I can’t help but think that there’s a fine line between committing to improving, and being delusional. Lufthansa’s CEO has some very, very, very big goals On April 7, 2026, aeroTELEGRAPH interviewed Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter (in German) on the Luftraum podcast, which has just been released. Since the name Carsten Spohr is often thrown around in the context of Lufthansa, let me point out that he’s the CEO of Lufthansa Group, the parent company of Lufthansa (and SWISS, Austrian, etc.). This is…

A new report from Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has warned that Europe risks future fuel shock without a significant drive to produce vast amounts of sustainable fuel. Published on April 30, 2026, SAS’s report states that Europe is heading toward a structural shortage of e-SAF (electro-sustainable aviation fuel) just as the EU’s ReFuelEU Aviation regulation comes into force. The European Union’s ReFuelEU places legal obligations on fuel suppliers, airports and operators to adopt sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in order to reduce emissions The airline suggests that a “rapid build-out” of sustainable fuel production is required, or else the shortfall “could push…

It’s not often you see a Boeing 777 just completely destroyed, but that’s the footage that’s now emerging from a recent attack. Before we get into this, let me just mention that I’m coming at this exclusively from an aviation perspective (give how rare hull losses are), rather than from a political perspective. Israeli airport attack leads to Boeing 777 hull loss In late March 2026, Israel conducted a heavy airstrike against Mashhad International Airport (MHD), in northeastern Iran, as part of the current conflict with the country. There had been reports that at least two Mahan Air aircraft had…

On April 30, 2026, Boeing announced that Biman Bangladesh Airlines had signed for eight 787-10s, two 787-9s and four 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The acquisition was fully expected, with the Bangladeshi flag carrier’s board having approved the deal in principle at the end of last year, leaving only pricing and additional terms with Boeing to be ironed out. Biman Bangladesh’s order, representing its first-ever purchase of the largest Dreamliner, means that the airline will fly the…

Ever wonder how jet streams affect airplanes? There are over 100,000 flights globally on any given day. While some of these flights involve short distances, others span more than 2,500 miles. For long-haul flights such as these, pilots will often take advantage of jet streams. An Introduction to Jet Streams Jet streams are narrow bands of fast-moving wind. They are often compared to rivers. While rivers carry water, jet streams carry air. Most jet streams occur in the upper atmosphere — typically at an altitude of 20,000 to 40,000 feet. They form when warm air meets cool air. Air temperature…
