A record 72.2 million Americans are expected to travel for the July Fourth holiday, thanks in large part to a busy Alaska cruise season.

The holiday travel forecast from AAA is up just 0.5% from 2025’s 71.8 million, with travel by car and air relatively flat. But 4.93 million Americans are expected to travel by other modes of transportation, including cruises, a more than 5% increase from last year.

Global ocean cruise volume hit 37.2 million last year, up more than 7.5% from the year prior, according to the Cruise Lines International Association. AAA expects 21.7 million Americans to travel by cruise for all of 2026, up 4.5%.
