The grace and power of jetliners with four roaring engines are icons of our world’s advances in civil aviation since the beginning of the Jet Age. Soaring at 600 miles per hour and faster, quadjets redefined glamour, broke down range barriers, and even reduced airfare before twinjets took center stage. Their oversized airframes demanded that airports extend runways, authorities expand their rulebooks – to put it simply, quadjets raised the bar of air travel like nothing before. Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet is set to take delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, more than nine years after placing an initial order for the type. The handover ceremony is planned to occur at a Boeing facility in Seattle on September 21, 2025, and will reportedly include Vietnam’s president Luong Cuong, according to a preliminary schedule seen by Reuters. Vietjet’s lengthy wait for its first 737 MAX is primarily due to the global grounding of the aircraft following two tragic crashes in October 2018 and March 2019, which resulted in delivery delays and made aircraft financing more difficult. …

Delta Air Lines is the world’s second-largest operator by aircraft movements. In the final quarter of 2025, between October and December, the SkyTeam member will introduce or reintroduce 17 international routes. To qualify, none of them must have operated since 2021. While all of them have been announced, it is worth summarizing them. Some of them will make my Weekly Routes article (see the most recent edition). Five of the 17 additions are long-haul, and not all of them have been served before. They include two African links, with Delta being the top US carrier to that vast continent. The…

The US Air Force has quietly started converting a Boeing 747-8 donated earlier this year by the government of Qatar into a specialized aircraft for executive transport. While the Pentagon has confirmed the handover, much of the scope, cost and contracting arrangements for the conversion project remain classified, fueling political debate in Washington. President Donald Trump formally accepted the Qatari 747-8 in early 2025. The jet, previously outfitted for VIP travel and valued at about $400 million, was transferred to the Air Force for use in what officials are describing as “executive airlift support”. Publicly, Trump has said that he…
