Otto Aerospace has successfully completed the Preliminary Design Review (PDR) for its future Phantom 3500 executive jet, the company announced on May 13, 2026. The Preliminary Design Review (PDR) is an important milestone in the development of a new aircraft type and establishes the baseline design and systems architecture that the company will work on during its path towards certification. The Phantom 3500 has raised significant expectations in the industry, since it represents a rather unusual design approach when it comes to aerodynamics. For more than two decades, Otto Aerospace has been working on the development of a clean-sheet aircraft…

Iridium Communications has agreed to buy Aireon, the company behind a space-based aircraft tracking system used by air navigation service providers around the world. The deal brings Aireon fully inside Iridium, whose satellite constellation already carries Aireon’s Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) technology. Aireon uses these receivers to track ADS-B-equipped aircraft from space, including over oceans, polar regions and remote areas where ground-based surveillance systems cannot reach. Iridium already owns part of Aireon. Under the agreement announced May 14, 2026, Iridium will buy the remaining 61% of the company for about $366.7 million from NAV CANADA, AirNav Ireland, ENAV, NATS and…
KYIV, Ukraine — The U.S. State Department and Ukraine’s ambassador in Washington have outlined a memorandum that would route Ukrainian drone technology into joint ventures on American soil in an attempt to inject Kyiv’s combat experience into the military’s equipment supply chains. The draft agreement would open a legal channel for Kyiv to sell its weapons to the U.S. for the first time since it effectively banned arms exports to maintain its own forces at the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, CBS News first reported. The memorandum, drawn between the State Department and Ukrainian Ambassador Olha Stefanishyna, would integrate Ukrainian…
The Singapore Airlines Group increased its operating profit by 39% in the 2025/26 fiscal year. The airline group posted its largest-ever revenue, at $2.4 billion, an increase of 5% over the preceding fiscal year, while managing to bring down its operational costs by 1.8%. This cost reduction was due in great part to lower fuel costs and successful hedging during the latest fiscal period, a circumstance that may be more difficult to replicate in the current fiscal year due to the ongoing spike in the global price of oil. The company included a stark warning in its report, reflecting the…
In May 2025, United and JetBlue announced plans to roll out a partnership, which is being marketed as Blue Sky. It’s a quirky collaboration that seems odd on the surface. For United, it’s clearly motivated by the desire to compete with Delta in Boston (BOS) and New York (JFK), and to prevent JetBlue from partnering with another major US airline. Meanwhile for JetBlue, it’s about partnering with whatever airline gives the company the most financial upside. In October 2025, we saw the two airlines roll out the first phase of reciprocity with this partnership, which included reciprocal points earning and redemption opportunities.…

Final tests focused on hail and harsh weather The final stage of the certification campaign took place in April 2026 at UEC-Saturn’s open-air rig in Rybinsk, where the PD-8 was subjected to simulated hail ingestion.
