Archer partners with NVIDIA on integrated AI-assisted flight operations tech

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) developer Archer Aviation has selected the NVIDIA IGX Thor platform to support its future operations.

This advanced software platform uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help pilots and operators assess the operational circumstances and take the right decisions in safety-critical environments.

NVIDIA’s IGX Thor is the most powerful safety-capable AI computing module currently offered by the technology giant.

By integrating it into future iterations of the Midnight eVTOL and its own proprietary flight management systems, Archer Aviation aims to leverage this platform’s ability to sense the aircraft’s environment and process flight-path data in real time. This will facilitate the tasks of the pilots and smooth operations in airspaces which are expected to become increasingly crowded and complex to manage.

What’s more, this technology has many of the ingredients necessary for a transition to autonomous and semi-autonomous operations in the future.

Hawthorne airport (HHR), in the Greater Los Angeles area, will be the first location to see a real deployment of NVIDIA’s IGX Thor alongside Archer’s technology. The eVTOL firm purchased this Californian airport in 2025, with the aim of testing its aircraft in real operational conditions ahead of its planned commercial rollout at some point before the 2028 LA Olympics.

The new announcement was made during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 6-9, 2025.
