The first US-based Airbus A321XLR has landed at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to join the American Airlines fleet.

On October 22, 2025, the brand-new A321XLR, registered N303NY, set off from the Airbus facility at Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport (XFW) on an 11-hour flight across the Atlantic.

The first of 50 A321XLRs was welcomed by American Airlines at its Dallas base, in what it described as a “new era of flight” for the carrier.

On October 23, 2025, American Airlines announced that the A321XLR’s first commercial flight has been scheduled for December 18, 2025, from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

“Designed for long journeys with comfort and style at the forefront, American is thrilled to be the first U.S. airline to operate the A321XLR,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “Whether customers are traveling from coast to coast or across the ocean, American’s newest aircraft demonstrates our commitment to providing a premium travel experience.”

American Airlines claims to be the only global carrier offering customers a three-cabin layout on the aircraft.

Each A321XLR will feature 20 ‘Flagship Suite’ seats, 12 premium economy seats and 123 main cabin seats.

As part of the Flagship Suite service, customers receive priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling, as well as access to the Greenwich Lounge experience at JFK.

Although N303NY is the first American Airlines A321XLR to arrive in the US, the carrier actually received its first in July 2025. At the time, the aircraft was placed in storage over issues with the interior.

Other airlines to have received their first Airbus A321XLRs include launch customer Iberia, plus Wizz Air, Qantas and Aer Lingus.
