All Nippon Airways (ANA) unveils new Pokémon-themed livery series

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has unveiled a set of new Pokémon liveries to mark the 30th anniversary of this popular media franchise.

As a result of a collaboration between the Japanese airline and The Pokémon Company, the franchise’s rights owners, a series of three ANA aircraft are to be painted in Pokémon liveries.

On May 28, 2026, ANA unveiled the first two, ‘Pokémon Jet Red’ and ‘Pokémon Jet Green’.

The ‘Pokémon Jet Red’ livery will be painted on a Boeing 787-8 (registration JA819A) which will be used primarily on domestic routes within the Japanese isles, while ‘Pokémon Jet Green’ will feature on a Boeing 787-9 (registration JA923A) which will operate international services.

As is common in these cases, the Pokémon theme will not be limited to the outer appearance of the aircraft. ANA is set to provide an immersive experience for passengers, decorating cabin and service elements, such as headrests, paper cups and napkins with Pokémon characters. ANA has also set up a dedicated website.

‘Pokémon Jet Red’ will be operational from the end of July 2026, while ‘Pokémon Jet Green’ has no confirmed launch date. A third aircraft, to be called ‘Pokémon Jet Blue’, is also planned, but no details have been disclosed as yet.

These three jets are merely the latest in a long-running collaboration between the Pokémon franchise and ANA. Since 1998, excluding the three aircraft currently planned, a total of 11 ANA aircraft, including Boeing 747s, 767s, 777s and 787s, have received Pokémon-themed liveries. The most recent of these was unveiled in 2023.

Other airlines in Asia, such as China Airlines of Taiwan, Korean carrier T’Way (recently renamed ‘Trinity Airways’) and Garuda Indonesia, have also sported Pokémon-themed liveries in the last few years.
