Airbus has postponed the production of some of its A220 jets to late 2026 due to supply chain challenges, significantly delaying the production schedule for the manufacturer’s smallest commercial jet, according to Reuters.
The manufacturer had planned to ramp up production of the A220 to 14 aircraft per month at some point in 2026, but this target is now not expected to be reached until December 2026, Reuters reported on October 27, 2025, citing three anonymous industry sources.
To reach its overall goal, Airbus has established an internal target of delivering 12 A220 aircraft per month by mid-2026, an increase from the current output of seven to eight per month, the sources added.
However, the sources warned that A220 production facilities in the United States and Canada are still encountering supply issues, which adds some uncertainty to both production goals.
The sources told Reuters that the latest delays involve a small number of jets being removed from the production plan in 2025 and nearly 10 in total for the following year.
The European planemaker operates two final assembly lines for the A220: one located in Mirabel, Quebec, and the other in Mobile, Alabama. The Mirabel facility is the primary center for the program, whereas the Mobile facility was created to serve the US market.
In the first nine months of 2025, Airbus announced 62 A220 deliveries, but the European manufacturer did not reveal specific delivery targets for each model within its overall annual goal of delivering 820 aircraft by the end of the year.
