Airbus Hteaming trial proves a ‘gamechanger for modern tactical operations’

Singapore’s Defense Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Airbus Helicopters are celebrating the conclusion of a successful HTeaming flight campaign that began in June 2025.

On February 5, 2026, Airbus declared that an ambition to explore crewed-uncrewed teaming using a H225M Medium Lift helicopter and Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system (UAS) had proved to be a “gamechanger”.

A Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) H225M helicopter and Flexrotor Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) drone worked in unison to discover how crewed-uncrewed teaming could enhance situational awareness and improve mission outcomes.

Airbus said that the trials, conducted at a Singapore airbase, “proved that a crewed helicopter can successfully and securely access real-time data from a UAS, significantly extending the aircraft’s visual range and overall mission safety”.

RSAF’s H225M and Flexrotor buddied up using simulated scenarios, including search and rescue mission scenarios that concluded in January 2026.

“The successful teaming is a gamechanger for modern tactical operations,” said Olivier Michalon, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Airbus Helicopters. “This flight campaign fully illustrates the ability to exploit dual-use technologies to support secure operations. By leveraging the strengths of both platforms, air commanders are enabled with unprecedented situational awareness in complex missions and high-risk environments.”

The HTeaming crewed-uncrewed teaming solution is designed to be compatible across the entire Airbus helicopter range. It allows crews to take full control of different UAS in flight, in order to meet specific mission requirements.

Airbus declared that the synergy facilitated between the two aircraft allows for “rapid decision-making,” while “minimizing the crew’s exposure to high-risk environments”.

“It marks a positive step forward in teaming capabilities to enhance the RSAF’s mission effectiveness, while ensuring human decision-making remains at the center of operations. This achievement gives us confidence to move further to redefine the boundaries of what’s possible for more dynamic operations,” said Ang Jer Meng, Director of Air Systems, Defense Science and Technology Agency.

The Flexrotor drone, which has a launch weight of 25 kg, has been designed for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions of more than 12-14 hours in a typical operational configuration.
