An Air Europa Boeing 737-800 suffered a runway excursion upon landing at Palma de Mallorca (PMI) on May 9, 2026.

The aircraft (with registration EC-OBP) was operating flight UX6079, inbound from Madrid-Barajas (MAD), and upon landing in Palma at around 20.30 local time, it skidded until it became immobilized at the edge of the runway.

Emergency services flocked to the aircraft to evacuate its occupants, although no one was injured in the incident.

The original cause of the incident was, reportedly, a bird strike which the aircraft suffered as it departed Madrid and which affected its frontal undercarriage.

The pilots decided to carry on with the flight, as the bird impact it didn’t affect the performance of the aircraft and Air Europa has its own maintenance facilities in Palma.

Pictures posted online after a close inspection of the aircraft could be performed show appear to confirm that the bird’s impact caused some damage to the nose landing gear of the aircraft.

Local media reported that the aircraft was later towed away for closer inspection, with the affected runway remaining closed for less than an hour.
