Airbus has nearly finished implementing precautionary updates across its A320 family fleet, with fewer than 100 aircraft still requiring the update, after a vulnerability linked to solar radiation was discovered in the flight-control systems of the aircraft.
In a statement released on December 1, 2025, the European aircraft manufacturer issued an update regarding the deployment of the precautionary software and system updates for the affected A320 family flight-control computers.
For many airlines, the fixes were quickly implemented since the directive required action before the next passenger flight.
Airbus said that by December 1, 2025, most of the approximate 6,000 A320 family jets that were potentially impacted have now received the necessary updates and are back in service.
The planemaker said it is currently collaborating with its airline partners to assist in modifying the fewer than 100 remaining aircraft in order to ensure they can return to service as well.
“I want to sincerely apologize to our airline customers and passengers who are impacted now. But we consider that nothing is more important than safety when people fly on one of our Airbus aircraft – like millions do every day,” Guillaume Faury, the CEO of Airbus, announced in a statement on LinkedIn.
The required fixes on some A320 aircraft led to operational difficulties and passenger delays during the last weekend of November 2025, affecting the operations of several airlines, including smaller and mid-sized ones.
However, most of these airlines have finished the updates on their A320 aircraft and have returned their fleets to regular service.
As of December 1, 2025, airlines like American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Lufthansa, Delta, Air France, Jetstar, Qatar Airways, Air India, IndiGo, and others have successfully completed the necessary fixes.
