Malaysia Airlines is set to double down on growth to its key routes across Asia and Oceania, with a new route to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, in addition to increased frequencies to destinations across South East Asia, China, New Zealand, and Australia. The Malaysian flag carrier also unveiled a significant enhancement to its onboard offering, as per an annoucement on September 5, as part of the airline’s attendance as the official airline partner and premier sponsor of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) fair.
Delivering greater connectivity is all part of the carrier’s growth strategy, which will see the airline continue its momentous shift to strengthen its regional presence and goal of becoming one of the ‘world’s top airlines’ by 2030.
The Youngest Widebody Fleet To Australasia
The introduction of the A330neo on select routes to Australia and New Zealand will mean that the airline offers the youngest wide-body fleet between Asia and Oceania, and with increased frequencies, promises more capacity and opportunities for passengers. The airline has already launched a significant marketing program that has seen the carrier’s branding on key international transportation options, such as the London Underground and Melbourne tram lines.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Australia, the airline will kick off three extra weekly services to Melbourne from October 30, resulting in 21 weekly services between the city pair. This will be followed by Sydney, also bumping up to 21 weekly flights (instead of 18) from October 31. Perth will follow suit, with 14 weekly services from December 1 (up two), and Adelaide, South Australia, will go to daily flights from February 1.
Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city, will also see an increase in its offering, with MH increasing from its current 8 weekly services to ten. Meaning twice daily services three days a week.
More Flights Across Asia
Malaysia Airlines will introduce a new non-stop route to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) from January 9, operating a daily service (seven times a week). This will be complemented by additional services to Xiamen (up from three to four weekly from November 1), while Trivandrum goes to daily from December 1, and Ahmedabad increases to five weekly from October 26.
Additional services are also set to grace the Maldives, with the Kuala Lumpur-based carrier increasing its daily service to 11 weekly from October 26, and Dhaka boosting to thrice daily (up from twice daily), set from November 5.
Firefly, Malaysia Airlines’ regional and low-cost subsidiary, is also planning to increase frequencies to several destinations in its network, while also adding three new destinations, Krabi (seven weekly) from November 17, Siem Reap (three weekly) from November 27, and Cebu (five weekly) from December 2.
