The Most Comfortable US Business Class Seats You Can Book Today

Today, the best cabin that you can fly on with a US airline is business class. Several airlines market a first class on domestic flights, but this typically consists of a recliner seat comparable to regional business class in other parts of the world. Additionally, American Airlines sells a first class cabin on its Boeing 777-300ERs and transcontinental Airbus A321-200s, but the A321s feature a business class seat for first class, while the 777-300ER first class has never been lauded for its quality, and both planes will soon lose their first class cabins.

In this guide, we’re going to compile the six best business class seats operated by a US airline that you can book today. As such, this list won’t include newly announced products, namely United’s new Polaris suites based on the Adient Ascent, as these seats aren’t bookable yet. Additionally, the presence of a front-row “business class plus” seat will be taken into consideration, but will not count as a standalone entry. Furthermore, this list will only consider the seat itself, rather than the soft product, such as service or amenities.

Earlier in 2025, American Airlines began flying a new subfleet of its Boeing 787-9 coded as the “789P“. These aircraft feature 51 Flagship Suites, 32 premium economy seats, and 161 economy seats, for a total of 244 seats, compared with prior American 787-9s, which had 30 Flagship Business seats, 21 premium economy seats, and 234 economy seats, for a total of 285 seats. American had previously gone with the Collins Super Diamond for business class, but has debuted new seats on the 789P.

The business class cabins now feature the Adient Ascent, a highly customizable reverse herringbone product. These seats now feature privacy doors and are 21 in (53.34 cm) wide, as per aeroLOPA. Additionally, Flagship Suites now comes with a 17-inch (43.18 cm) 4K touchscreen display, powered by the Thales Avant system. The seats also include four charging options (universal AC, USB-A, USB-C, wireless), and the screens offer Bluetooth connectivity.

In the front row of the two business class cabins, American sells its “Flagship Preferred” suites. These seats offer a large table area underneath the screen, along with significantly more space, a larger screen, and higher privacy dividers. American is one of only two US airlines to currently sell a “business class plus” product, and there are eight of them on the 789P. American Airlines currently only sells “Flagship Suites” on the 789Ps, but it has confirmed plans to reconfigure its entire Boeing 777 fleet with these seats as well.

The Runner-Up: Alaska/Hawaiian 787 Business Class

Hawaiian Airlines currently operates four Boeing 787-9s. These planes are to be transferred to Alaska Airlines, which will also receive additional 787-9s and five Boeing 787-10s. While Alaska will launch a new soft product for its flights, the hard product on these planes will remain the same. Just like American, the Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 787-9 features the Adient Ascent suite with privacy doors.

Other than the finishes, these seats are largely the same as American’s Flagship Suites. The seat width is the same, and Hawaiian’s screens are marginally larger than those on American’s Dreamliners (18 inches versus 17 inches). However, American ultimately gets the pole position due to the availability of Flagship Preferred Suites, whereas Hawaiian Airlines does not offer a business class plus product. Also, Hawaiian’s business class does not offer Bluetooth connectivity with its screens, as per aeroLOPA.

While both American and Hawaiian use the Adient Ascent, Hawaiian has configured these seats in a herringbone pattern in the center section, a layout that will remain when the planes are transferred to Hawaiian. These seats may be awkward for solo travelers, but are ideal for couples traveling together. As a whole, these seats are comparable to American’s flagship suites with a few minor details, plus the Flagship Preferred Suites are pushing American ahead. Although for couples, the Hawaiian seats are the best in the US.

American Vs. Delta Vs. United: Which Carrier Has The Best Premium Economy?

These three airlines offer the most prominent premium economy offerings in the domestic aviation market.

Delta Air Lines was only the third airline in the world to introduce privacy doors in business class when it began flying the Airbus A350-900 in 2017. Named “DeltaOne Suites“, these seats use the Thompson Vantage XL+ and can be found on Airbus A350-900s in the 359 or 35H configuration. Additionally, DeltaOne Suites on the Airbus A330-900s features a slightly different visual design and finishes, although the actual seat models are the same.

The Thompson Vantage XL+ is a staggered seat. Unlike some staggered products, like the Safran SkyLounge, the Thompson Vantage XL+ center seats do not alternate between being close or far apart from one another; all seats are equally spaced, and all seats alternate between being closer to the aisle or farther away. The DeltaOne Suites were the best in the US when they debuted, but the seats have a few drawbacks.

Passengers have often noted poor ergonomics with the seats, and window seats are known to lack storage. Additionally, the doors are relatively low, and some complain they can be difficult to operate; the center suites on the Airbus A350s in particular are reported to have poor air circulation. However, the suites still come with an 18 in (45.72 cm) touchscreen display, two USB-A sockets, a universal AC socket, along with wireless charging on newer aircraft, as per aeroLOPA.

JetBlue Mint Suites On The A321neo And A321LR

JetBlue was the first airline in the world to introduce privacy doors in 2014 when it launched Mint business class. These seats, the Thompson Vantage, featured doors on four of the 16 seats and were among the best in the country. In 2021, JetBlue introduced an updated business class product called Mint Suites, complete with doors at every seat and direct aisle access. These can be found on select Airbus A321neos and all Airbus A321LRs.

As per aeroLOPA, JetBlue installs the Thompson VantageSOLO configures two-abreast. This is a herringbone seat, and while herringbone seats were cutting edge in the 2000s, they’ve largely disappeared in favor of reverse herringbone seats. Older herringbone seats lacked privacy, and the angle made it difficult to look outside. However, the Thompson VantageSOLO is much improved, with significantly more privacy and easier access to the windows.

JetBlue installs 16 Mint Suites on its Airbus A321neos and 24 Mint Suites on its Airbus A321LRs. These seats feature a 17 inch (43.18 cm) retractable touchscreen display, and multiple power outlets. Additionally, JetBlue sells two Mint Studio suites in the first row, which feature a larger screen and a large side ottoman, and more storage space. JetBlue was the first airline in the US to sell a business class plus seat, a trend that is becoming increasingly popular across the world.

American Airlines is the US launch customer for the Airbus A321XLR, and these planes come with updated cabins that differ from those on the new Boeing 787s. For Flagship Suites, American is going with the Collins Aurora, as per aeroLOPA. This is a herringbone product that offers direct aisle access with privacy doors, and the suite is comparable to JetBlue’s Mint Suites using the Thompson VantageSOLO. These are the two best narrowbody business products in the US.

JetBlue Mint Suites gets a bump because JetBlue offers a business class plus product, and the Thompson VantageSOLO is positioned at a slightly lower angle. However, the Boeing 757s operated by Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are configured with a four-abreast lay-flat product, and these two seats beat many of the seats on widebodies operated by the three major US carriers.

American is installing 20 Flagship Suites on the A321XLR. These seats feature privacy doors and a 17 inch (43.18 cm) retractable touchscreen display. The screens include Bluetooth connectivity, along with direct aisle access, universal AC power outlets, USB-C sockets, and wireless charging. Additionally, the seats feature more privacy, more storage space, and easier access to the windows than older herringbone seats flown by carriers such as Virgin Atlantic.

United Polaris

United Airlines first introduced Polaris business class in 2016 with the Boeing 777-300ER. All seats lie flat into a bed and include direct aisle access, as is expected with a modern business class product. Ultimately, these seats are nearly nine years old, and they don’t include doors. Additionally, United installs the Safran Optima, a solid but ultimately dense business class seat. However, Polaris does come with some benefits that likely make it the best business class seat in the US that doesn’t include a door.

Despite not featuring doors, Polaris seats are known to be incredibly private, especially in the window and center seats. Even the aisle seats are also known to be private. As per aeroLOPA, the seats also come with 16 inch (40.64 cm), along with USB-A and universal AC power ports. The other benefit with Polaris is consistency: United installs the same Polaris seats on the Boeing 767, international Boeing 777, and Boeing 787 fleets, whereas Delta and American have more variety.

Because of the age of these seats, United is introducing a new Polaris seat with new Boeing 787-9 deliveries. The new Polaris Suites are based on the Adient Ascent and will include doors, along with improved technology, new finishes, an exceptionally spacious front-row Polaris Studio option, and the largest screens offered on any US airline. In all likelihood, these will be the best business class seats in the US when they debut, although they are not yet bookable and as such have not been taken into consideration.
